Dear Sir,
Im writing to you on behalf of friends and folks at the biggest travels lovers online community in Thailand, Blue Planet at www.pantip.com . At this online community, we share information about travelling worldwide among members similar to several other online communities in the world.
We were several of the people affected by Expedia.co.uk's unfortunate reneging on the terms of their "Refer-a-Friend" promotion.
Under this promotion, customers referred people they knew to Expedia.co.uk, providing them with a 20 GBP voucher code to use for any Expedia Special Rate Hotel, with no minimum spend requirement. Once this voucher code was used by them, Expedia provided a 40 GBP voucher to the referrer, with the same terms and conditions. These conditions should be able to find at: http://referafriend.expedia.co.uk/po...lites.asp?l=en But unfortunately that the link is now disabled. But you can find the terms and conditions in the attached file here.
In 17th July, Expedia changed their terms and conditions of this promotion, with new referrals having to meet a minimum 200 GBP booking amount before being able to use the 20 GBP voucher code. Likewise, the 40 GBP voucher code now had a 300 GBP minimum spend.
For a period of about two weeks, all codes issued prior to the change in terms and conditions kept the previous terms and conditions intact, and could be use for any purchase amount until the end of this year. On July 31, 2009, all codes were disabled, including those that were legitimately earned by referring individuals to use Expedia's service. Expedia has replied saying it will re-issue the voucher codes, with the new terms and conditions, and that such is life, things change, and they are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Some of us have received this reply, while others were instructed to call Expedia and have the codes manually applied. Others received credit card refunds of the amounts of the voucher code after they had to pay full amount first. We do not believe that their unequal treatment is valid.
Expedia neglected to notify its customers about their voucher codes being invalidated, nor did they choose to re-issue these voucher codes when they were approached directly with our concerns. They simply brushed us off and told us that we will receive new vouchers with the minimum spend requirements. Some of us have been holding onto our 40 GBP voucher codes to book a future trip with, and now we have to spend over 300 GBP on a hotel booking in order to use these. This is a prime example of bait-and-switch at best. Some referrers had pitched this offer through their websites - and now their very own customers blame them for not telling them about the minimum purchase amount (which did not exist at the time).
As this promotion is governed by the laws of England and Wales as they claimed to their terms and conditions. We understand that in your country, you have a very strong consumer protection plan for those companies who treat unfair business to their customers. And we also respect BBC as one of the leading news agents of the world who will not ignore the fairness of society and protect innocent people from unfair business treated.
We are an example of people who effected from this unfair business treated from expedia.co.uk. There are still a lot more people from all over the world who are in the same situation as us. We would like them to honor the terms and conditions that were agreed to when we began our participation. We have earned voucher codes in good faith by referring people to their company. They have not kept their end of the bargain that we had agreed to. They have robbed us.
I attached you herewith this letter the number of us who participated in this promotion and the number of friends/folks that we referred to www.expedia.co.uk and they enjoyed their business.
Please accept our thanks for graciously looking into this matter for us. If you may have any queries, please feel free to contact me at this email address at anytime.
Sincerely Yours,
