The Foreign Affairs Ministry will today issue official clarification to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on their alleged involvement in ordering a Thai man to spy on the flight information of the former prime minister. The chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Topong Chaiyasan (ต่อพงษ์ ไชยสานส์), said Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya (กษิต ภิรมย์), and the First Secretary at the Thai embassy in Cambodia, Kamrop Palawatwichai (คำรบ ปาลวัฒน์วิไชย), have confirmed they will clarify to the committee over Kamrop's request for a Thai engineer, Sivarak Chutipong (ศิวรักษ์ ชุติพงษ์) to check flight details of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
Topong revealed that Kasit and Kamrop would meet with the committee today at 09:30 am at the Parliament building.
However, Topong (ต่อพงษ์) said that he was not sure if Kasit himself would be able to issue the clarification today. He explained that Kasit once failed to show up to testify after the committee asked him to do so.
Topong (ต่อพงษ์) went on to say that the committee is trying to protect the nation's image, but he believes the Foreign Affairs Ministry has never issued any official statements for the issue.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Chawanont Intharakomalasut (ชวนนท์ อินทรโกมาลย์สุต), has insisted that the Ministry will not set up a fact-finding committee to probe into the involvement of Kasit and Kamsop, as demanded by the Pheu Thai Party.
He added that the Ministry has also asked Isorn Pokmontri (อิศร ปกมนตรี), an ambassador attached to the Ministry, to answer the committee's questions in place of Kasit and Kamrob.
