Day 01 Arrival in Shanghai
You will go to visit the Bund and Nanjing Road. Has been the historic landmark of Shanghai, the Bund is a section of the waterfront along Huangpu River, the city's mother river. Its highlight should be those buildings in various kinds of architectural styles, such as gothic and baroque. Walking westwards for a while, you could get to the bustling Nanjing Pedestrian Road which is praised as the top commercial street in China.
Day 02 Shanghai - Suzhou
In the morning, you will take a soft-seat train to Suzhou, the back garden of Shanghai. For hundreds of years, Suzhou is well-known for preserving many charming and typical classical gardens, almost all of which are the local wealthy families' residences. Your first destination is the Garden of the Master of Nets which is the representative Suzhou garden combining the natural landscape and the host's residence harmoniously. The following verdant Tiger Hill is only 36 meters in height but keeps a number of historical buildings and relics, the history of which is as long as Suzhou City. The rest of the day will be spent touring around the largest garden in Suzhou - the Humble Administrator's Garden. It is also one of the top four gardens in China, enjoying the same high fame with the imperial Summer Palace in Beijing. Until now, its top landscape architecture does inspire those gardening designers.
Day 03 Suzhou - Zhouzhuang - Shanghai
Besides the gardens, visiting these ancient towns is a must while you are in southern China. Not far from Suzhou, you could reach No.1 water town of China - Zhouzhuang by car in one hour. The entire ancient town is just a large scenic area for you to explore. Different from the nearby modern cities, everything here is old and unsophisticated, including navy-blue and narrow lanes, off-white residences, blocky stone bridges and lingering river below the windows. It is suggested that you pay a visit to the Former Residence of Shen Wansan, who was the first millionaire in south China in the early Ming Dynasty.
Day 04 Shanghai
You might be eager to visit the Oriental Pearl TV Tower when you were touring around the Bund on the first day. On the other bank of Huangpu River, the 468 meters high Oriental Pearl TV is no doubt a notable landmark in the new Pudong District of Shanghai. A double-decker elevator could transfer you up to the viewing platform to overlook Shanghai City and participate in some recreational activities. Through the window, you could see the 492 meters high Shanghai World Financial Center and the 420 meters high Jin Mao Tower. After that, there is a visit to Shanghai Museum, a fantastic Chinese ancient art gallery. Around noon, a luxurious western buffet lunch will be specially served for you. The tranquil Yuyuan Garden will give you a short escape from the bustling city this afternoon. Compared with those classical gardens in Suzhou, Yuyuan Garden has been constructed with more elegant buildings and long dragon walls dividing the garden into multi-layers. This evening, you will feast on a palatable dinner at a popular local restaurant and watch an exciting Portman Acrobatic Show at Shanghai Centre Theatre.
Day 05 Departure from Shanghai
You are going to the Jade Buddha Temple this morning. As its name implies, there are three rare jade Buddha statues worshiped in the temple. The 1.95 meters high Sitting Buddha was carved with an entire quality Burma jade as well the other two statues of the Recumbent Buddha are respectively from Burma and Singapore. Your Shanghai tour will come to the end today. Wish you a pleasant journey home! (^_^)
