Very interesting pictures. I spoke with Philip today and he said he will have a look at them once back from Poo Luang.
I don't know if anyone really can tell a Swinhoe from a Pintail by a picture only. Best method seem to be to cound tail feathers. The 3 species all have different amount of tail feathers. I am more inclined to think that both pictures are of Common Snipe. The tail is simply too long for any of the other two species. With Snipes I find it best to either flush them or wait for them to fly and then determine what specy we are talking about.
