Hello there,
I am Thai and a rather frequently visitted member of that Thai website you are talking about. You might have all the question on what on earth are they doing with your and your friends' photos. Now let me fill you in.
First of all, I just want to tell you that I am a story teller and not involve in any of these circumstances. I just want to let you know of what happened there.
There are only a fews known Photography Web forums in Thailand and this website is not one of them. This website is a huge web forums, largest in THailand perhaps, that discussing about everything and photography and camera is just one small part compared to other part in this website, :-) very huge.
Couple months ago, a rather talented young man became a member of the website and began posting series of Fashion photos. They are very good, of course, and not too long until he became so popular. His techniques are perfect. A lot of people are very excited about this and began to ask him how he has done his work. Like a professional photographer, he began to give people some lectures about photo shooting in a studio and how to manipualte all the light. That is when some of the more experienced members began to question his knowledge. The way he explained how he manage to put all the light to get the photo in question doesn't seem to fit.
People started to think that he is a fraud. This has became a center of all attention of all members. Everyone want to see at very least an exif of each photo he claimed to be owned. Somehow he could not provide them. Many chalenged him to provide some other evidences of the ownership of those photo but he just simply ignored them. In fact, he even treathen people who tried to question him by hacking some information of the others and posted them on the internet. Time went by and people tired of chalenging him. He keep posting other people work. Not many people participated in his entries any more except some new members who didn't know anything.
A few days ago, someone has discovered this website and found that all the photos this man posting on the forum are all came from this website. Well it took us long enough to found the true owner of all those photos.
Well, there is no escape when everyone found the truth but this man still wanted to buy sometime and still refused to accept all the evidences. By the time I am writing this rep, this man has said sorry and finally, for the first time, said that all the work he posted are not belong to him.
The story has not ended. As of now, people are discussing about what are they going to do with this man, accept the apolopy or shut him down forever.
a lot of people think saying sorry is not enough. As it is that the web site are in Thai content and obviously no one here could understand them, you guy might think that thai people are just a thief and that would applied to all of us. And that is why I came all the way here to tell you the story. Just want to say that this is disgrace to all of us, Thai people, since this has became international issue. Of course you have the right to think that all Thais are as bad as this man but what can I say.
Oh and you might ask why the web moderator did not simply delete all the photos this man posted on the website. I think, because the web moderators just want to keep those photos as the evidences. Why I said this? In fact there is another website that this man post all those photos and the web moderator of that web site has locked all the entries that have photos posted by this man. nobody can alter the entries no more comment and to make sure that all the evidences are still there.
