Mariah couldn't hold the note to save her soul. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So true.
Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fly Like A Bird was better but again she really tried to disguise the lipping but I caught it in several parts. Nice song but if they release it, consider the album finished. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At this point, I don't hate Mariah for all these lipsynching, it's become expected and I'm like "whatever". However what I do hate is that some people, especially her fans, can't see it and are in denial. Most of the lambs are saying "that was 100% live she was incredible" and it just drives me mad. I mean, [b]it's BEYOND obvious the difference between the live parts and the lipped parts, heck in the live parts she struggles to barely hit a normal note and then all of a sudden she starts lipping huge belts to perfection. She's such an expert now and like you say, she doesn't lip to the album version but rather to other pre-recorded tracks that sound different.[b/] But it's just too annoying, not the lipsynching at this point, but people actually be in denial or not even see it. That's what upsets me, is that she gets away with it. I am surprised that anyone would make the claim that it was 100% live.

Okay, now that the Grammys are done and I have a big break in classes, I'll review last night's event:
Madonna-she can still put on a show after being out for more than two decades! A worthy show-opener.
Mary J. Blige/U2-started off a bit shaky, but it got better. I've heard Mary better vocally quite a few times in the past month so I'll forgive that, but an overall good performance. This still doesn't top her "No More Drama" performance, though! That goes down as one of the best Grammy performances ever!
Kelly Clarkson-Love her! Vocally, this is the best she has performed on television! Wasn't really feeling her dress, but it's okay. Not a single flawed or cracked note and she held that "thiiiing" note longer and with more power. One of my favorite performances of the night. Congratulations on her two wins, too! She gave my favorite speech of the night; and she can talk so fast with you understanding every word she said. And she cried. She said her dream was to always win just ONE Grammy. Now she has two! Can't wait for album #3!
Mariah-I hate repeating what has already been said, but it wasn't good at all. "If It's Over" remains my fave Grammy performance from her, and I know she'll never be able to sing like that again, but come on! And the way she yells/forces out that last line of WBT is so grating! It sounds like it hurts. FLAB wasn't much better. The choir filled in HECKA of the song. Her high notes-if they really were live-are much clearer now, but it doesn't make up for the performance. And she got a standing O? About her wins. It sucks that they were all given out before the show! I really would've liked to see her up there at least twice! She still hasn't given an acceptance speech at the Grammys since freaking '91!
Kanye/Jamie Foxx-I liked it! It's very different than anything I've seen Grammy wise and it really went well with the song/performance. The girl steppers were good! The guys??? They didn't come correct. This made me warm up a bit to him again. His ego is too blatant for my taste, but he didn't go overboard last night. Glad he won 3 Grammys, but he should've won Album of the Year!
Sly Stone tribute-Can Joss Stone NOT afford shoes? I mean, even at the Super Bowl, where EVERYONE ELSE on stage had 'em on, she wasn't wearing shoes! Now, against John Legend, Fantasia, Ciara, Adam Levine, etc., she STILL didn't have shoes and she didn't wear them last year, either! Is that her way of showing soul cuz sho ain't in her voice and wannabe-runs. John Legend was good, but not great. Fantasia-I just love watching her perform. She has a "go big or go home" attitude that I like. Even though she got a bit much at the end, it was still nice to see her up there. And did anyone else notice Randy Jackson at bass (I think)? Cool that HE backed up for a perf. SHE was in! And Sly Stone-haven't heard anything about him in years so it was good to see he can still perform. Ciara can't sing for nothin', but she's so freakin' pretty! I've always known she looked better with darker hair.
Christina Aguilera-I don't know why (but I'm feeling so sad...haha...jk), but I thought her performance and interpretation skills would've improved since her hiatus. I thought her recorded version of ASFY was okay, but she had the potential to really deliver last night. Instead, it was 'My Kind of Christmas'-redux. Her runs aren't even half as good as she tries to make them and they all sound exactly alike. You can tell she doesn't have her high notes like she used to, either, but that would be okay if she knew how to emote the song better. ASFY is one of my fave songs of all-time so I'm going to be critical when someone messes it up so bad.
Jay-Z/Linkin Park/Paul McCartney-I thought I knew everyone that was performing! I had NO idea Jigga or LP was even up for a Grammy! I didn't scan the nominees list much because I wanted some kinda surprise and I got one! "Numb/Encore" is a great song that deserved its win! And then when they segued into "Yesterday" and Paul McCartney came out?!?! I was really feeling that performance. My favorite performance of the night. And Mike Shinoda cut his hair??
Keith Urban/Faith Hill-they both gave good, safe performances. I like them both, but Faith's voice was just a TAD bit rough at some points. But it's okay because I saw her and Tim on Oprah, and she was splendid.
Other awards:
U2-congrats on 5, but they shouldn't have won nearly that many. Like I said earlier, Kanye should've been given 'Album of the Year,' and Song of the Year should've gone to Rascal Flatts for "God Bless The Broken Road"! Lyrically, that song was untouched this year. Like last year when Song of the Year should've gone to Hoobastank for writing one of the best ballads-alternative or any other genre-in a LONG time!
Record of the Year-see, this is where I say that 4 of the 5 nominees all fully deserved it with "Feel Good, Inc." being the one I thought-and MANY others-should've been replaced by "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly. BOBD was good, but if I had to pick ONE song out of the 5 nominated, I would've gone with Gwen Stefani for "Hollaback Girl."
Congrats to John Legend for his 3 awards. Hopefully he isn't a victim of the BNA curse!
Alicia Keys looked good! Man she was so beautiful.
Jennifer Love-Hewitt also looked very good! I always thought she was kinda cute, but she outdid herself last night!
Missy-I'm SO glad she won "Short Form Music Video"! I love that song and video. And if that was nominated for ROTY, I wouldn't have been upset if it won.
And did Paul McCartney really walk away with no Grammys? Wow! The Academy had that much guts, huh? Too bad it over-awarded U2.
Aretha winning just because she's Aretha although Fantasia should've won that one.

Re: Mariah's Grammy Performance -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've seen so many mixed reviews for this performance, it's almost funny. From terrible, to great, to ok, from fan and non-fans.
I personally enjoyed it a lot. She might have lipped a few parts, although I still don't see how someone can lip 5 seconds and sing live again then lip again..etc, but I still think it was a great performance. Very inspiring in the end.
