โดยสรุปเค้าบอกว่า เพลงนี้เป็นเพลงที่ดีที่สุดในอัลบัมนี้เลยทีเดียว โดยตัวเพลงแล้ว เป็นเพลง midtempo (จังหวะกลางๆ) เซ็กซี่ๆ  ....ด้วยเสียงของ มารายห์ และ Snoop ก็เด็ดขาดพอแล้ว โดยไม่ต้องมีอะไรมาเพิ่มเติมในเพลงให้มากมาย  และมารายห์ก็เป็น ศิลปิน mainstream pop คนแรกๆ ที่ชื่นชอบชื่นชม hip hop  และเอาศิลปิน hip hop มาร่วมงานด้วย.


จะเห็นว่า มารายห์ ร่วมงานกะ hip hop  ทำมานมนานตั้งแต่ fantasy ปี 1995 แล้วที่ ft. กับ O.D.B  ซึ่งตอนนั้นเธอก็ดังสุดขีด  ใครที่บอกว่าว่ามารายห์ทำตามกระแสตอนนี้เราว่าไมถูกต้องทั้งหมดนะ เพราะอย่างน้อยเธอก็เป็น 1 ในยุคแรกที่บุกเบิกมา คนปัจจุบันนี้ ft. กับ hip hop กันแหลกราน  แม้เราจะไม่ค่อยชอบ hip hop ก็เถอะ แต่ก็เพราะมารายห์นี่แหละ ทำให้เราฟัง r&B / hip hop ขึ้นมาได้บ้าง

However, it has been held up for unknown reasons. One explanation that was tossed out was because Mariah Carey does not share production credits on the song like she does on most of her material. "Say Somethin’" is credited solely to the Neptunes as producers. Whatever the reason, it is here at last and it is an event.

The song doesn’t amount to much more than a midtempo seduction, but with the near perfect vocal match of Mariah Carey and rapper Snoop Dogg nothing more is needed. Carey was one of the first mainstream pop artists to openly express her love for hip hop and collaborate with hip hop artists. Now that these collaborations are the norm Mariah pulls together the Neptunes, arguably the top production team in the business, and Snoop Dogg, already a rap living legend and still one of the most distinctive voices in hip hop.
