There is no danger anymore that Mariah will be confused with pornstar Mary Cook. A judge has decided that Mary may no longer call herself Mary Carey. Mary Ellen Cook started using the name Carey in 2002. Last summer, she used this name to run for governor in California against Arnold Schwarzenegger. But when she wanted to trademark the name Mary Carey, Mariah Carey stepped in.
Before the lawsuit, Marys attorney David Beitchman was self-confident and said, "Do you really think the fans would confuse Mary with Mariah?" But according to the judge, this could be the case and he prohibeted the pornstar to use the name for DVDs, websites and movies.
Mariah Carey already has the best times behind her. In the 90s, the singer from New York could be found in the charts. In the USA alone, she sold more than 61 million albums. But with the new millennium came Mariahs decline. She changed record companies, but never sold as many albums as she used to do.
After her breakdown and another change of record company, Mariah crawled back but her comeback never came through.
