Compact disc hits 25th birthday
The first CD produced was The Visitors by Abba,
went on sale in November 1982 but were mainly classical recordings.
Philips Co. was kind enough to inform us that its very first CD rolled off the production lines on August 17th, 1982, which history will forever remember -- perhaps unfortunately -- as a copy of ABBA's The Visitors. Nonetheless, this first widely-produced optical disc format would end up changing our lives forever.

*The Visitors is the 8th and final album by Swedish pop group ABBA, released in 1981. This album was one of the earliest releases to be made available on the new CD format as well as the very first CD manufactured.
The Visitors has been reissued in digitally remastered form three times; first in 1997, then in 2001 and again in 2005 as part of The Complete Studio Recordings box set.
This Lp went to BillBoard 200 Album Chart at 29 position in 1982.
