Video: Mariah's E=MC² Interview for Japan
In this video interview recorded for the Japanese fans, Mariah goes in-depth talking about her new album, E=MC² - the process of making the record and the significance of how the music came to be. She also mentions in this interview that the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" project for HBO is still very much a work in progress.

Interview Excerpts
"I think that music has always been my outlet, no matter what, even if I, you know, you can listen to a song like 'Fantasy' from the Daydream album, and think that's the happiest girl in the world. I probably was one of the saddest people that you would have ever met, but through music I was allowed to be happy. So I think that no matter what, as long as music exists, I'm always gonna be okay. And these past two albums, Mimi and this new album E=MC², are really representative of the true me, and having fun and taking things not too seriously, yet also being able to reveal a lot of who I really am to the world which is not an easy thing to do but I think it's important to do if you're trying to make a difference because a lot of people need to feel like there's someone else out there who feels the same way as they do, who's lost somebody at some point in their life, who feels great going out with their friends one night and the next day they may want to reminisce about an old romance, whatever it is, or a new romance. There's all different moments on here for everybody who's going through something, good or bad."

"I'm very open to suggestions but the thing about me I consider myself a really strong collaborator. I love to collaborate on whatever it is and especially music. When somebody is open and understands that when I'm making my records, it's got to be representative of me so you can't just be like somebody else thinks like, 'Oh, this is hot for her. We don't care what she thinks.' That doesn't really work for me so I love the collaborative process."

"I think once I get in a room with different people, usually once we get past the initial 'I-don't-know-you-you-don't-know-me thing, they can pretty much understand that I'm in the studio because I want to be in the studio. A lot of people get the whole song done for them, and sung for them, and then it's over, then they hear the record, then they do it. That's not who I am. So anybody who's ever worked with me knows that and I just, I have to break through that wall of anybody feeling insecure or whatever because it's detrimental to the process."

"I think it's just where I'm at with my life and I think that female empowerment is something I had to learn. I think I've always had that in me. I've always been like 'Oh, I never wanna be controlled by anyone, I never want this and that' and then it ended up happening to me so I think when I get to have that burst of freedom, the burst of like a lovelife, and the burst of fun and energy, that's when I get to create the best music that I can make and that's what this album is for me. It's a fun, really just festive album that I'm so thankful that I've been blessed with."

"Honestly it really did help that I've been touring for a while and had to get fully into like this. Again, vocal rest environment of not speaking, resting my throat, putting everything into the singing and there are some songs that you haven't heard yet that will be on the album as well. So I feel really proud of this record in terms of the vocals and I feel like I was in a great place vocally when I made this record so that's always good."

"There's a really exciting project that we've been working on for a long time. It's basically, it's based on the Christmas album and it's called, 'All I Want For Christmas Is You.' [I'm] very, very excited working with HBO. There's so many things I wanted to say about it, who's working on it, but these things are like, 'I don't know what I'm allowed to say and what I'm not allowed to say but I couldn't be more thrilled and excited in terms of the people involved with the project and the fact that it's loosely-based on the music that I wrote for the Christmas album as well as the classic songs that I covered for the Christmas album. What the story that I feel is timeless, and obviously Christmas is something that's very, very close to my heart so I am like super-excited about that."
