"Special guest Mariah Carey sings live and then the eight remaining acts have the tough task of following in the American diva's footsteps by each performing one of her songs. Dermot O'Leary hosts proceedings and judges Cheryl Cole, Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue and Louis Walsh have their say, before the phonelines open for the public to decide which two acts will appear in the final showdown. The results can be seen at 9.35pm."

"Mariah Carey sings again before the viewers' verdict is announced and the two acts with the fewest votes perform a song of their own choice in the final showdown, hoping to win a reprieve from the judges"
