After big time negotiations with Warner Brothers he got his name and his music publishing rights back in exchange for that $100,000,000 contract he signed, and that is when he came out with the 1996 album EMANCIPATION cd and appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and took us all on a private tour of his massive recording studio that Warner
Brothers built for him. if anybody has seen the Renaissance building in Detroit it looks exactly like it only on a smaller scale: three huge circular buildings made of glass. It includes three 48 track studios, a combination rehearsal hall and video hall and an apartment at the top, as well as a live club. It also includes a huge vault which includes over 500 unreleased songs.
Michael Jackson owned a lot of publishing catalogs. A couple of the catalogs are not mentioned very often. One is the CAMEO music, another is the Sly and the Family Stone catalog. However, the most talked about is the Beatles catalog. How that transaction came about is the reason he and Paul McCartney fell out big time. At the time when the Beatles catalog came on the market Michael was flush with Thriller money and out-bid Paul for the catalog. McCartney was pissed because Michael would not have thought of buying the catalog unless he had told him publishing catalogs were a very lucrative investment. From that point on Paul and Michael had a very strained relationship and Paul never got over it.
