Hype Nation's Secretive Marketing Techniques Arouse Suspicion
Certain associates in the entertainment industry have been looking upon Jay’s latest project, ‘Hype Nation,’ with suspicion towards the way the producers of the film publicize their work, which may in turn mean bad publicity for the movie.
According to various industry associates, the manner in which information has been shared regarding ‘Hype Nation’ is a fair cause of suspicion. Work for the movie began in 2007, but even now, when they have selected the cast list for their lead roles, they have not said much about their plans – apparently for the safety of Jay.
Because the production team for the movie has not revealed much information regarding filming dates or anything to do with production itself, many people feel as if something fishy is going on. When asked for details regarding the cost of production or about their American sponsors, people find that producers answer with a vague “we cannot tell you anything.”
Since companies rarely ever conceal such basic information from the public (whether they are working on a national production or a Hollywood film) this has aroused even more curiosity from the public. Using such a secretive marketing tactic does not seem like a good idea for bringing about the movie’s success, according to various entertainment representatives.
Despite the fact that this movie is supposed to be a collaboration between South Korea and the United States, nothing official is known about the investment company; some even doubt that the $25 million ‘Hype Nation’ is said to have for filming is even true.
Not much is known about the production company for ‘Hype Nation,’ either, as this movie will be its first project. The company, which shares its name with the movie they are creating, does not produce misgivings because they are so new, but because they simply do not look trustworthy to others despite the experience and stability of the staff members.
In addition, ‘Hype Nation’ has yet to have been able to find a Korean distribution company, which worries many onlooking associates. Although it had been said that Universal Studios would be taking part in its production, over time it has seemed that this has become an “opaque statement.”
Perhaps much of this distrust can be derived from the fact that Jay never properly worked through the controversy he had with his former agency, JYP Entertainment, but this simply brings more cause for concern. If the project has been given as much as $25 million for its production, then it would be a huge risk for both producers and investors to work with such a man (especially since he has no experience in the acting field) if they wish for the film’s success in South Korea.
Hopefully, ‘Hype Nation’ will be able to pave the road to success for Jay’s comeback – but associates fear that his failure to clarify rumors regarding his controversy will greatly hinder any future work his career brings about to him in South Korea.
