Kim Hyun-joong breaks record as K-pop artist on Oricon chart with "First Impact"
Hallyu star Kim Hyun-joong has become a record-breaking K-pop artist with his DVD "First Impact" topping Oricon's DVD weekly chart, according to Oricon's website on May 23. "First Impact," which rolled out on May 16 and sat at No. 1 spot on the daily chart last Thursday, has moved over 160,000 copies and grabbed the top seed, making Kim the second artist in Oricon's history to top the chart as a foreign solo artist after late Michael Jackson's "Michael Jackson Vision" DVD dropped in 2010.
Countless Korean artists that have released albums in Japan, but their rankings on the chart had stayed below the third place.
A few notable records made by K-pop singers in the chart's history are songstress BoA's "8 Films & More" bowing at No. 3 and singer and actor Jang Keun-suk's "JANG KEUN SUK 2011 ASIA TOUR Last in Seoul" sitting at No. 4 last year.
The breakthrough release mainly features his live concert in Yokohama this February, dubbed "Kim Hyun-joong Japan Major Debut Premium Live 2012," and bonus clips for his fans.
Having wrapped up his fan meetings in Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which are the first three stops of his Asia tour that kicked off on May 4, the Korean heartthrob will soon visit four cities in China -- Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.
