The Pan-Asian boy band K-Otic will say farewell with one last concert in July The boy band K-Otic reduced fans to tears with their recent announcement that their upcoming July concert "K-Otic: The Memory" will be their last.
Speaking in front of 500 fans at Sky Dining on the sixth floor of Siam Discovery Centre, the lads explained that Korean member Park Jongbae has to return home later this year for military service.
"Like the fans, we were also stunned to realise that the band was breaking up," says Hatai Sarawutpaiboon, vice president of music business for RS Public's Kamikaze record label "We were informed by Jongbae that he had to go into the military this August, so we all sat down and talked about plans for the future."
"All Korean men must serve in the military. I'm now 24 years old and ready to do my military service for two years," Jongbae explained. "K-Otic is very much part of my life and I have wonderful friends and fans. My deepest thanks to everybody."
After Jongbae's departure, the other members will go their different ways, Thai-Japanese members Kenta Tsuchiya and Visava "Tomo" Thaiyanont will continue to work on their music, while Thais Panu "Poppy" Chiragun and Pataradanai "Koen" Setsuwan are returning to college.
Therefore, the concert "K-Otic: The Memory" will be a proper farewell.
K-Otic's name comes from "K for kick ass, O for outstanding, T for terrific, I for incredible, and C for chaotic". Their debut album came out in 2007, with the hits "Ya Wai Jai" and Thai and Korean versions of "Rak Mai Dai Rue Mai Dai Rak".
The band issued "Blacklist", its sophomore release in 2009, and a third long-player, "Free to Play" in 2010.
Last year came "Real" with the singles "Phuean" (Friends), "Phuea Wan Phrung Nee" (One Wish), "Mai Mee Ther Mai Yak Hai Jai" (Suffocated) and "Thing Khao Sa" (Leave Him).
"I've been often asked how long K-Otic would go on. It wasn't a question I could answer because I still enjoyed working with the other members. K-Otic is all about feeling comfortable and confident because we've all have worked together for five years," Poppy says.
"K-Otic has been a very special time for me. It's made me happy and we've had a lot of fun. But without Jongbae, it isn't K-Otic," says Koen.
"For me, K-Otic has been the best experience in my life," says Kenta. "Having the chance to sing and dance with friends in the band has been like a dream."
"K-Otic is saying farewell much too fast. However, thanks to all fans who have been with us and supported us all the time," Tomo says.
Goodbye boys
