She joined the 7th HK Amateur Singing Competition at the tender age of 15. Surprisingly, Sammi got 3rd in the competition and won a contract offered by Capital Artistes, a recording company under TVB(One of the most prominent TV Stations in HK). However, Sammi did not sign the contract as her father wanted her to finish her studies first.
2 years later, at the age of 18, Sammi finally signed the contract with Capital Artistes. However, she only released her first album 2 years later. Her debut album, self-entitled "Sammi" was not a great success. People were still not that familiar with Sammi Cheng. It was not until 1995, when Sammi joined Warner Music Co.(HK), that she slowly gained popularity and success. 1997 was Sammi's peak; it was the year when Sammi reached the height of her career. Today, Sammi is a renowned International Artiste who is also known to be the "trend-setter" of Fashion. Sammi, with her fabulous outfits, glamourous images, heart-wrenching love songs and pulse accelerating fast-tempo songs, has slowly taken over Faye from many people's hearts. She is what we call the new Queen-of-Asia-Pop-Industry.
