Mu Rong You (Sammi Cheng) is the sole owner and the head chef of an
elegant private restaurant. Her extraordinary culinary talents are
well acknowledged in the culinary field. She was invited by a well-
known Japanese culinary television show as their guest star to
challenge other reputable chefs in the business. However, she
rejected this great opportunity because she did not have much
interest in participating in a competition. This made her assistant
Xiao Ke (Jerry Yan) puzzled.
In truth, Rong You burdens two secrets about her life. First and
foremost, she does not actually possess any unique culinary trade
secrets; she inherited all her recipes from her mother who has passed
on. Rong You's mother was interested in trying and experimenting
with different dishes when she was alive; she kept a collection of
these recipes in her personal recipe book. Rong You's other
secret is
her curse. She believes that she is the victim of an ancient curse.
She was repeatedly told about the story of the curse since young. Her
mother retold the story to her. About a hundred years ago, Rong
You's ancestral grandmother, Mu Rong Ju, used a unique magical
technique (spell) called "Inhaling star changing moon" on a
fellow
chef, Au Yang Qing, who evidently admires her. This technique has the
power to "inhale" the AuYang's family unique cooking
skills that
has been inherited for generations. Ju's righteous and stern
father
was angered by her actions and thus, hired a powerful figure to
condemn Ju with a curse. This powerful curse condemns every girl in
generations to come to suffer a similar fate. They are destined to be
chefs but they will not be able to hold on to a relationship because
all men will ultimately leave them. This curse can only be stopped
when the love debt owed by the Mu Rung Ju is repaid to an
AuYang's
later generation. Rong You's mother suffered the same fate as
well.
Rong You's father abandoned her when she was pregnant with Rong
You. This story of the curse left an impact on Rong You's love
life
and her views on love and life.
Rong You could not put memories of her former boyfriend, Chuan You
(Andy Lau) behind her. In the days when they were still an item,
every single time she tried to present herself to Chuan You,
strange things would happen to ruin their plans. Rong You was certain
the curse is causing these mishaps to happen. Tension built between
the two of them that they eventually broke up. After a couple of
years, when Rong You meets Chuan You again, Chuan You was already
with her mature and elegant friend Chuan Wei. Rong You felt helpless.
On the other hand, Xiao Ke is actually secretly admiring Rong You. He
knows Rong You's feelings towards Chuan You and thus, chose to
respect Rong You's decision. He chose to be by her side, to wait
for her. At the same time, he provided Rong You with continuous
support, hoping that she will one day overcome her fears, avoiding
her mother's fate, and being true to herself and leading her own
life.
Under many complicated circumstances, Rong You still could not make
up her mind; she did not have the courage to stand up for herself.
Observing the people around her (the relationships of her room mate,
Zhi Kui and Mu, Tony movie editor who lives upstairs, Chuan You and
Chuan Wei who eventually ended their relationship too), she saw many
different viewpoints and experiences from their love lives. Xiao
Ke's sincerity finally touched Rou. She decided to gather her
courage
to strive for her own life as well as to love Xiao Ke.
The two lovebirds headed for Japan to participate in the culinary
competition. This competition was extremely important for Rong You.
Rong You finally realizes that only if she courageously faces her
true love, the curse would be lifted. This competition bonded Rong
You and Xiao Ke closer together, as a beautiful love story finally
blooms.
