Kane had been part of the reformed line-up who played a number of shows in the UK over the summer, including gigs at the London Royal Festival Hall as part of the Morrissey curated Meltdown event. NME.COM understands that Kane didn’t play the band’s show at the Move festival over the weekend in Manchester due to illness. It’s reported that the bassist died (July 13) due to complications from leukaemia. The New York Dolls are cited as one of the most influential punk bands of all time, and a huge influence on UK punk, including the Sex Pistols. Their recent shows have been greeted warmly by critics and fans alike, with the band playing songs including 'Personality Crisis', 'Jet Boy' and 'Trash'. They are also the most recent additions to this year’s Carling Weekend: Reading And Leeds Festivals following the cancellation of The Vines. This week, we have The Concretes and Midlake with live tracks. The Concretes are an all-girl Swedish group with 8 full-time members, who recently released their self-titled album. The LP manages to fuses classic Motown with Mazzy Star and the Velvet Underground and the NME have dubbed it 'An understated classic'. Thier session is another belter from the BBC's Maida Vale studios. Midlake are another band from Denton, Texas who have been snapped up by west London’s Bella Union Records, run by former Cocteau Twin Simon Raymonde. Their recent album Bamnan and Silvercork showcases their talents for soulful yet quirky records and has led to comparisons with Granddaddy and The Flaming Lips.
