F4 Mania, Alive In Thailand Allan Diones of Abante Tonight (September 1, 2004)
BANGKOK, Thailand F4 Mania is alive again in Thailand because of the 'Bangkok Fantasy With F4, Comic Boyz & Art Vacation Live in Bangkok' Concert (thats the whole title of the concert on Monday night) that happened in Impact Arena.
We knew that Muang Thong Thani, where Impact Arena can be found, was near the Bangkok Airport, However, we never realized that it was quite far from the city proper, thats why the taxis refused to accommodate us.
If our friend Joe Barrameda didnt agree to pay the taxi driver 300 baht he wouldnt have brought us to the venue. The distance of Impact arena from Baiyoke Sky Hotel in Pratunam area, where we were staying, would be from Cubao to Cavite or Sta. Rosa, Laguna here in Manila. (Note from tina wu: I dont think its that far. Hehe. Maybe just up to Las Pinas or Alabang.)
We arrived at the venue and saw a large number of people outside the venue. It was like there was a big fair or grand fans day because there were different booths for the F4 fans.
It was still early when we arrived so we went around the venue first since they allow people into the venue at 7PM.
Bouquets of flowers and other gifts from the fans for their idols Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Ken Zhu and Vanness Wu were placed in a long table in the fans booth.
Right next to it was the booth of Virgin Radio Thailand that held different games where the fans who joined could win F4 giveaways.
There was a stage for the Yamaha Meet F4 Campaign that had a program and assorted games and promos, thats why the fans were so happy and there was a fun ambience.
Right next to the stage was a small Yamaha shop where you can buy Yamaha apparel and accessories. We wanted to join the F4 matching game where you click on the computer screen the pictures of f4 until they all match, like a casino slot machine, but we were discouraged by the long line.
Of course, if you dont join the game, you wouldnt win the F4 merchandise such as notebooks, fans, posters and a lot more.
Even though we were willing to pay they wouldnt sell them to us since it was allocated as prizes for the games. We were told we had to join the games so it would be fair to other fans!
=======
Different paraphernalia were brought by F4 fanatics. There was an assortment of banners, posters, artworks and props. Outrageous outfits were worn by fans of the Taiwanese quartet.
There were people wearing Jerry shirts, Vic sweatshirts, Ken headbands, Vanness caps, among others. (Note by tina wu: This is the best translation I can give.)
There were fans that held a picnic on the grounds outside the venue and a lot of them watched the show twice (Sunday and Monday).
Impact Arena is like Philsports Arena (formerly ULTRA where the Happy New Year Concert of F4 in the Philippines was held last December) but it is bigger, nicer and cooler.
If the seating capacity of Araneta Coliseum is 20,000, Impact is at around 15,000.
Venue was almost full, aside from some areas of the lower box section where there were vacant seats.
6000 baht, 4000 baht, 2500 baht and 1000 baht are the ticket prices. Our seats were situated near the front, thanks to Yamaha that was the major sponsor of the show.
The show hasnt started yet but fans were already screaming when F4 video clips were being shown on the two giant screens on the stage. Even the F4 Yamaha commercial elicited screams. When the lights were turned off, it seems like we were in space because of the blinking lights since almost everyone were holding blinking swords, blinker pins, glow in the dark sticks and lighted banners. It says 830PM on the ticket but at 810PM the show started. The male host came out and greeted the F4 fans from different countries in Asia Vietname, Indonesia, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Philippines.
Of course the loudest screams came from the Thais. We couldnt understand what the host was saying since it was in Thai.
A band started playing and a little later a Thai Singer named Art Vacation came out. He looked like a mix of Smokey Manaloto, Vandolph and the singer King (Note from tina wu: I kinda disagree with this. He was much cuter. J).
He sang three Thai songs and two English songs (Superman and Wherever You Will Go).
We got bored when he and the host were talking since we aside from the fact we couldnt understand them they also took up a lot of time.
When Art Vacation exited, the Yamaha commercial were shown again and fans screamed.
Comic Boyz from Taiwan performed next. In fairness the five boys were cute but they didnt sing and dance too well.
They were nothing compared to the group Anime of ASAP Mania. They danced their own version of Asereje, a song that has gone past its prime here in Manila.
On their next number, they were holding bamboo sticks and they were performing some arnis moves will singing and dancing their hit song with the title Number Two.
=============
The F4 Fantasy World Tour has gone to 15 cities and 14 nations. The audience screamed when footage from F4s past concerts was shown on screen.
At 910PM, Jerry, Vic, Ken and Vanness all came out together wearing all-white outfits. The Pepsi Jingle Ask For More was their opening number.
Our eardrums nearly popped with the volume of the screams! Due to excitement everyone stood up on their seats!
The hairstyles of the four are now shorter, not as long as it was when they were on Meteor Garden. F4 exited after the song. Personal facts and trivia were shown on the screen before they came out one by one.
Vanness came first. He performed his hit song Looking for Juliet.
Vanness gained weight (Note from tina wu: WHAT) but very sexy still! But his hair which had an undercut and colored brown didnt suit him. He looked gay. (Note from tina wu again: WHAT!?!)
