Bench Idol in Manila
Taiwanese heartthrob Jerry Yan, who rose to fame as Dao Ming Si in the chinovela
Meteor Garden, first visited Manila in November 2003 to endorse the local
clothing line Bench. On November 5, 2004 almost exactly a year after Jerry's
first visit, Bench once again managed the impossible. It brought the extremely
busy star back to the Philippines so that hundreds of his fans could meet and
greet their idol.
Arriving early the same day, Jerry only had about two hours of rest before
proceeding to the NBC Tent at The Fort in Taguig. There, fans wearing Bench
T-shirts from the Jerry Yan collection clamored for him to come out, chanting:
"Jerry! Jerry!" When Jerry finally came out onstage, he sang two songs, answered
some questions posed by the hosts and his fans, and for almost an hour signed CD
copies of his debut album, Jerry For You. Afterwards, he reluctantly said
goodbye to his fans, saying in English: "Thank you...Bye! See you!"

* Wearing a Merry Jerry Bench T-shirt, Jerry shook hands with fans who had lined
up to ask for his autograph. He also revealed, much to the delight of his Pinoy
fans, that he has extended his contract with Bench for another year.
*When Jerry sang "Gravity," a cut from his first album, his fans immediately
sang along with him, although most of them didn't understand a single word of
the Chinese song. After the song he praised the sing-alongers: "Perfect!"
