Kofi Annan & More Celebs To Send Pre-recorded Pledges For MTV Asia Aid

Additional personalities to throw their support behind MTV's Asia Aid benefit event being held in Bangkok were announced yesterday, with appearances by Vanness Wu of F4, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, Bollywood superstars Fardeen Khan and Bipasha Basu, Sri Lankan cricket legend Aravinda de Silva and pop star Alston Koch - all of whom have been confirmed as presenters at the event, which will be hosted by Alicia Keys. United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan heads up a slew of new international celebrity-messages-of-support, with pre-recorded pledges from Ashanti, Black Eyed Peas, Bryan Adams, Enrique Iglesias, Franz Ferdinand, Jackie Chan, Keane, Rio Ferdinand, and Shakira. UNICEF's Executive Director, Carole Bellamy, will also make an appearance on stage. International superstar Ronan Keating will also debut a special acoustic version of his song "I Hope You Dance" filmed in Phuket.
Previously announced messages of support have also been received from 50 cent, Moby, Nelly, Ricky Martin, Sting and Zhang Ziyi. Previously announced LIVE PERFORMANCES from Asha Bhosle, Bird Thongchai McIntrye, Good Charlotte, Hoobastank, Jay Chou, Kelly Clarkson, Namie Amuro, Rain, Simple Plan, Siti Nurhaliza, Slank and Tata Young.
CNN International is supporting the event with specially created vignettes highlighting the need for continued support of the relief efforts. CNN will also broadcast a special one-hour highlights version of the event on its channels around the world. UNICEF will be the primary beneficiary of funds raised by MTV Asia Aid. Viewers will be able to donate money through SMS, post, or a Web site - www.mtvasiaaid.com. Additional charities are being supported in local markets - eg. In Thailand funds will also go to the "Rajaprajanugroh Foundation under the Royal Patronage" and "The Government House - Disaster Relief Fund"; and funds in India will also go to the "Prime Minister's Relief Fund."
MTV Asia Aid will be broadcast on MTV channels around the world to a potential viewing audience of over 1 billion people. Through additional rights and cost free syndication of the show to broadcasters, the goal is to have this event seen in more than พ of the world's television households. Already, the following broadcasters have agreed to air the event: Channel 3 (Thailand), Channel 5 (Singapore), NTV7 (Malaysia), VTV3 (Vietnam), RTP (Portugal), Link TV (USA), Much Music (Canada), Magyar TV (Hungary), Hotvision (Israel), Georgia TV (Georgia), LRT (Lithuania), PBS BiH (Bosnia & Herzegovina), HRT (Croatia), TSI (Switzerland), BNT (Bulgaria), SVT (Slovakia), CT (Czech Republic), RTVA (Andorra), ERT (Greece), ITV (Tanzania), and CYBC (Cyprus). In addition to the show being available via cable and terrestrial channels, a webcast of the show will also be available on www.mtvasiaaid.com at 10pm (Singapore/Hong Kong time).
HP has partnered with MTV to bring this event to audiences worldwide. MTV Asia Aid is being broadcast commercial free worldwide, outside of Asia, made possible by a generous contribution from HP. HP will also broadcast the event through it's internal broadcast system to it's 130,000 employees worldwide, along with information about how HP employees can contribute to the reconstruction efforts. MTV will collaborate with HP to produce a special public service announcement designed to support the relief effort and MTV Asia Aid's partner charities. HP is also producing and funding a limited edition commemorative MTV Asia Aid book which includes talent shots and performances from the event - 100% of money generated from this initiative will go towards UNICEF's tsunami relief efforts.
Official partners for the MTV Asia Aid are Toyota Motor Corporation, HP and Samsung. TOYOTA is also sponsoring a pre-show concert, "MTV Power With Style by TOYOTA" on February 2, to help boost recovery efforts in Asia. Samsung also recently launched the Samsung Heart Links program to raise funds for five partner charity organisations in the region, as part of their campaign to support disadvantaged youth in Asia. Local support for the MTV Asia Aid benefit comes from Sinyal Kuat Indosat in Indonesia, 5425 in Korea, DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd in Malaysia, Addict Mobile in the Philippines, StarHub in Singapore and Heineken in Thailand. MTV Asia Aid is also strongly supported by Tourism Authority of Thailand. Thai Airways is the official airline of MTV Asia Aid.
