Amy Phillips reports:
A peaceful army of British rock and roll superstars marched into studios across the world today, with 24 hours to record a new song for the Help: A Day in the Life benefit compilation. The disc, with proceeds going towards health and education of children in war zones via the UK-based War Child charity, will be available as a download on the War Child website starting mid-day tomorrow, and in stores on the Independiente label on September 26.
As previously reported, the comp features such faves as Radiohead, Gorillaz, Belle and Sebastian, Bloc Party, and the Go! Team. Since then, Mercury Prize winners Antony and the Johnsons have been added to the lineup, collaborating with Boy George on John Lennons Happy Xmas (War is Over). Kaiser Chiefs and Keane will also be offering cover versions, with the former taking on I Heard it Through the Grapevine and the latter Elton Johns Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
