SUSTAINS LOTS OF INJURIES ALWAYS.
Hu Jun Quan, 30, is a star Paralympian, because he has 'iron-head
gongfu'.
In every match, because he has no arms, the only way is to
use his head to hit the wall. It is only natural that he injures his
head often. But he gets gold medals one after another.
In the Paralympics in Sydney, he won a gold a bronze, in Athens
he had 4 golds & broke 3 world records.
At this BJ Paralympics, he lifted his head high to hit the wall!
But at the last split second, he lost to Brazilian swimmer by 0.15
second to be the second at the 50 m back stoke race!
On Sept 8, when he stood out of the poll he still won applause
from all corners of the Aquatic Cube.
At the awards ceremony, he used his neck to support the bouquet,
he nodded to the audience, & gave them his brilliant smile.
This is his well-known trade mark smile.
Just like any other disabled persons, He has a sad past.
In 1981, at age of 5, he accidentally touched the power line,
both his arms & part of the shoulder were amputated.
He stopped schooling in primary 4 & stayed at home to rear ducks.
It is this time that he learns how to swim while playing in the pond.
As he grew bigger, he learnt how to lead an independent life.
He tended to the cows, sheeps & worked in grocery shop.
In 1995, at a disabled identity card application, he filled in
'swimming' as his specialty. This remark raised the eye brow of the
disabled association, he was picked to be in the provincial
training team.
He practiced running, pull tendons, using a basin to change air,
learnt swimming in the bath tub, finally became a professional
sportsman.
In the swimming pool, he can only use his head to hit the digital
timer plate on the wall. His head continued to have bleeding &
haematomas. The coach had suggested to him to use a towel
as cushion, but this will impede the time, so he continues to use
his head. In the days when he has to train, he suffers from
gastric pain & has gall bladder infection.
His success came in 1996 when he began to join international events.
Outside the sports arena, he has no airs he continues to tend to
the sheeps when he is home.
Yunan is a place that gives him fond memories. It is the home
town of his wife Zhao Mian. Just before Sydney Paralympics, they
had a training camp in a resort. Zhao Mian worked in the resortฬ A kind herated Zhao Mian on seeing that he has no arm,
called him & told him to bring his clothes too so
she would help him wash. That was how they got to know each other & became good friends.
After he left Yunan, he summoned his courage to call her,
but he was rejected. Zhao Mian was fully aware that her
parents were sure to object to her marrying a disabled person.
But he Jun Quan was very persistent, whenever he was
free he called her, or wrote love letters to her. He promised
her to bring back gold medals from Sydney.
Zhao Mian was not able to contact He Jun Quan nor watched
the Sydney Paralympics, after much difficulty she found out that
He had won a gold & a bronze. She was v happy & agreed
to the courtship.
After the 4 golds in Athens, he was named the best Athlete by
Rolex & picked to act in a movie as 2nd lead actor. ....
He has no arm, yet he can write blog, he has no arm but he can
build his blissful life
