ที่มาของ Star Trek Opening "Space...the final frontier..."
พอดีได้อ่านหนังสือเล่มหนึ่ง คิดว่าคงเป็นที่สนใจของคนห้องนี้ เลยเอามาฝากครับ
ว่าด้วยที่มาของ Star Trek's classic opening ของกัปตันเคิร์กและพิการ์ด
กว่าจะมาเป็นบทพูดอันโด่งดังจนฮิตติดปากผู้ชมทั่วโลก ทีมงานใช้เวลาขัดเกลาบทพูดไม่กี่ประโยค
นั้นถึง 8 วัน บทพูดนี้มิใช่แค่คิดออกมาให้เท่ๆเท่านั้น แต่ Gene (producer) ยังต้องการให้มันสื่อถึง
concept และ theme ของซีรีย์นี้ด้วย เรามาดูกันดีกว่าว่าฉบับคัดเลือกมีอะไรบ้าง
2 August 1966: ทีมงานช่วยกันเสนอมาถึง 5 รูปแบบ ดังนี้:
"This is the story of the Starship Enterprise. Its mission: to advance knowledge, contact
alien life and enforce intergalactic law...to explore the strange new worlds where no man
has gone before"
"Space...the final frontier...endless...silent...waiting. This is the story of the United Space
Ship Enterprise. Its mission: a five year patrol of the galaxy...to seek out and contact all
alien life, to explore...to travel the vast galaxy where no man has gone before...a Star trek"
"This is the adventure of the United Space Ship Enterprise. Assigned a five year galaxy
patrol, a bold crew of the giant starship explores the excitement of strange new worlds,
uncharted civilizations and exotic people. These are its voyages and its adventure"
"The USS Enterprise...starship...its mission: a five year patrol to seek out and contact alien
life, to explore the infinite frontier of space where no man has gone before...a Star Trek"

10 August 1996: ด้านล่างนี้คือ official opening ของกัปตันเคิร์ก ใน Star Trek: TOS
"Space...the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five year
missions: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to
boldly go where no man has gone before"
เราจะเห็นได้ว่า Gene ได้นำคำคมๆ และไอเดียจากทั้ง 5 ตัวเลือกมาใช้ ตลอดเวลา 8 วันแห่งการ
หารือกันในทีมงาน พวกเขาช่วยกันวาง theme อันกลายเป็นรากฐานของ Star Trek
แนวคิดเกี่ยวกับโลกยูโทเปียของ Gene เริ่มชัดเจนมากขึ้นในช่วง 8 วันดังกล่าว จะเห็นว่าในตัวเลือก
ทั้ง 5 แบบนั้น มีการใช้คำเกี่ยวกับกฎระเบียบ การจัดการ การค้า อาณานิคม ทว่าที่สุดแล้วบทพูด
ที่ใช้อย่างเป็นทางการกลับเน้นไปที่การสำรวจและค้นหาความเป็นไปได้โดยไม่จำกัดขอบเขตใดๆ
ตรงนี้ทำให้ Star Trek สามารถเล่นกับเรื่องราวและประเด็นได้มากมายในแทบทุกแง่มุม
การใช้บทพูดเปิดเรื่องในทุึกตอนของ Star Trek: TOS & TNG ทำให้ผู้ชมรู้สึกมีส่วนร่วมในเรื่อง
เป็นการเชิญผู้ชมโดยตรง ให้เข้ามาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโลกยูโทเปียใน Star Trek
