Speaking of Zatoichi, it'll remind us of "KatsuShin". It started as "The Tale of Zatoichi" movie in 1962, and it has a total of 26 films, and also a 100 episodes drama series. In 2003, the film adaptation directed by Kitano Takeshi (62) won a Special Director's Award in the Venice Film Festival. Producer, Nakazawa Toshiaki of SEDIC International, the person who hold the rights of the movie gave a comment, "After this, Zatoichi will never be adapted again in any media,". He thinks Katori resembles the original Zatoichi and decided to trust this last adaptation to him. An image change of Zatoichi so far, who is aloof, this time, Zatoichi will be described as someone who loves his wife and friends in his hometown.
Katori's highlight scene would be the "sword cane" where he'll do a very quick sword-drawing. He has been in a sword training since June last year for almost 10 months now. Director, Sakamoto said, "The way he lower his waist and balance himself is wonderful. Now whenever he draw the sword, a wind sound come out of it,". The filming has started on the 15th, and Katori will have to close his eyes throughout the whole movie. He has to express Zatoichi's sorrow through the way he draw his sword or return his sword to its scabbard, he has to express Zatoichi's love for his wife through his body.
Katori said, "I have enough too-much-spirit for this. Since the crank-in, I feel I can bring this last Zatoichi to finish,". This is his first time working together with director Sakamoto, and the two of them has been discussing about the role since 10 months ago. "The moment he closes his eyes, he instantly become Zatoichi," director Sakamoto praised. The filming is planned to be over in early June. It also has been decided that a France company, Celluloid Dreams, that distributed Kitano's Zatoichi will have investment in the movie, and the movie will participate in Cannes Film Festival and it aims a world premiere as well.
Movie "Zatoichi THE LAST" tells the story of Ichi(Katori) who quit killing people with his blade for the sake of his wife, Tane, and goes back home to his hometown to live with her in peace. But apparently his hometown village has been taken under control by an inhuman and powerful family and the villagers asked for his help. Ichi finally decided to use his sword cane again, but a cruel fate awaits him.

-Last year, ICHI starring Ayase Haruka has premiered, labeled as the female version of Zatoichi. That makes Katori Shingo as the 4th generation of Zatoichi.
-Producer, Nakazawa Toshiaki explained the reason he casted Katori Shingo, "Just like the original image, Zatoichi has a big posture (180cm), humourous, has male sex appeal and very athletic. Among the present actors, only Katori-san has all those specifications,"
