Jin Air launches route to Bangkok (cont.) 2009.12.21
A ceremony celebrating the launch will be held in the Incheon International Airport. Attendees include IIA president Lee Chae-wuk, Hanjin Group chairman Cho Yang-ho, Walailak Noypayak, the director of Tourism Authority of Thailand Seoul Office, and Jin Air president Kim Jae-geon.
The subsidiary of the Korean Air plans to launch services to Osaka, Guam and Weihai in China to snap up the air-cargo market share dominated by a few major budget carriers in Asia. According to Skytrax, the world's largest airport and airline reviewer, Air Asia topped the budget carrier market share followed by Air Berlin and Easy Jet. Jet star and Virgin Blue made it to the top five.
The competition is stiff. Cheap tickets on top of diverse service channels including online check-ins and cell-phone purchases are credited to the rise of Air Asia, but there were many failed ones among its followers which emphasized the importance of building competitive edges.
Jin Air, one of four budget carriers in the country, puts efficiency into the practical use by lowering its pricing further by 10 percent for a family reservation with more than three members. Air crews also differentiate themselves from other carriers by dressing in jeans and t-shirts, to reflect the company's young and practical image.
The company plans to further strengthen its competitive edge by diversifying its international routes and maintaining the "even-lower" pricing policy.
