Lady Misil (미실, 美室, 540? ~ 600?) is a historical figure of Silla. But her existence is controversial because she is not mentioned in both Samguk Sagi and Samguk Yusa. However, she is a very important figure in the transcription of Hwarang Segi.
According to Hwarang Segi, she was a daughter of Mijinbu, 2nd Leader of Hwarang(Pungweolju). Also her father's mother was Princess Samyup, daughter of Beopheung of Silla. Her mother was Lady Myodo, sister of Sado, the queen consort of King Jinheung. With these relations, Mishil gained the qualification of a noble within the bone rank system.
She became powerful due to her relations with Kings and Poongweoljoos. She was the wife of Sejong, 6th Pungweolju, and was the major royal harem of 3 kings(Jinheung of Silla, Jinji of Silla, Jinpyeong of Silla). Also, she was in love with Prince Dongryun, eldest son of Jinheung, and Seolwon, 7th Pungweolju.
Her power was proved when she persuaded Jingol nobles to expel King Jinji from his throne. And her two sons (Hajong, Bojong) also became 11th, 16th Pungweolju respectively.
In TV drama Queen Seondeok, her role was played by Ko Hyun Jung and she was major opponent of Princess Deokman (played by Lee Yo Won).
