Excerpt from Yunho's 2010 interview for his Wish Birthday Party
Q. You have done good deeds for a long time, before debut til now. You said you received help from many people and because of that, you wanted to give back as much as you received right? But, its said that during many things that normally happen, when theres something specific which gets deeply imprinted in the mind and heart, that person will have something special throughout his whole life (in your case its good deeds)that he creates personally to motivate or continue the momentum. I think there is a special story which has made you want to do good deeds.
A. There have been many incidents. Among them, when I was a nobody and all I had was a lot of dreams, there were many people who believed in me. When I really had a hard time, there were my friends, noonas, and teachers who showed a warm heart and helped not only me but others who had it difficult. More than anything, the biggest momentum was my parents. Even when my parents had a hard time, I was moved watching them share the joys and sorrows of others. Perhaps thats why I wanted to do it too. Also, I regret not being able to show a better side of me to the teacher who gave me kind words at that time because he passed away before my debut. Thats why, in case he is watching in heaven with my grandfather, I try to work even harder ^___^
Q. There are lots of ordinary (non-celebrity) friends who have been with you for a long time. What do you like the most when youre with them?
A. When Im with my friends, it seems like Im just a goofy Jung Yunho rather than a celebrity. Its like theres another me that is different than the one on stage. After I became a celebrity, theres lots of ordinary things that I cant do. Maybe thats why, when Im with friends, I can be an ordinary Jung Yunho. Also, I feel brighter because it feels like Im going back to the time when I was a trainee with lots of dreams and Im able to do many ordinary things like this or that. We talk a lot too..by the way, I trust them even more possibly because my friends have lots of dreams and theyre very naïve.
Q. Is there an important criteria when you look at a person? Also, do you have something which you think is important in having a long lasting relationship?
A. When I look at someone, I look at their eyes because it seems like I can get a sense of their passion and their pure heart. Furthermore, more than anything, I think the most important thing is for them to have the heart to think of others before they think of themselves. Perhaps thats why, there are lots of people, my friends and others around me, who know how to share happiness and sorrow (with others). If you work hard at something, you can get good at it someday but its not the same with a persons heart. Thats why Im the type who looks at those who have faith and open their hearts to share with others and have their own passion.
Q. As a person, anyone can have stress. Do you have a special way or solution to relieve your stress?
A. Lately, its walking as far as I can go (about 3-6 hours) or snowboarding. Then, for some reason, the complicated feelings fly away with the cool breeze and beautiful scenery ^___^ If not, I go on a 1 night/2 days trip. Through these things, I can gain new energy and enthusiasm so when I have a problem, Im ready to go!!!^^
Q. After school, there is a red sunset which comes into an empty classroom and though there is no special cause, it is a memorable scene you can remember. As an ordinary Jung Yunho, instead of the singer and actor Jung Yunho, is there a memorable scene that you remember for no reason from your everyday life?
A. When I have a hard time or especially before I go to bed, I look at the sky. I think the stars shining in the sky is really beautiful. For some reason, I think those stars are giving me lots of lessons..Even among the stars, there are stars that are big and visible and those that are not bright enough to be seen yet. However, there are always stars that I can see. Thinking that those stars are similar to my heart and to see them a little closer, there have been times when I have gone to the provinces..suddenly.
