IU - Jo Kwon - Lee Seung Gi, Triple stars of the next generation
The hot keyword for last year was "Selfish OOO", and in 2010 "crazy" became the part of showbiz. "Crazy character", "crazy vocal", "crazy body", etc. Indeed "Crazy" is in this crazy showbiz world.
It the same in music world. Girl groups and boy groups dominated the charts this year. But among these idols of the world a few "crazy characters" stood out, and they are IU, 2AM and Lee Seung Gi.
These people have something in common. They distinguished themselves from idol groups, who tend to put performance first, and grew into singers with very big potentials. And they did not become stars overnight. They reached the top one step at a time. All three of them were honored Bonsang at the 25th Golden Disk Award on December 9.
It is not that we belittle the ability and popularity of idol groups. Actually there are a lot of idol group members who have the ability in writing and producing songs. But since they started in a dance groups and not as solo artists, they have a deal with their companies therefore they should follow the arrangement. Moreover they have not much of a room to promote themselves and they have no choice except to follow the team's schedule and go with the flow.
Therefore compared to idol dance groups who have relatively short-lived popularity, although it is harder for ballad singers and solo singers to gain popularity, but once they reach the "next generation" they will shine for a long time in music world.

"Kkap-dol" Jo Kwon... Energy, strong vocal, friendly "Star".
Just like IU, 2AM Jo Kwon showed a lot of potential. He gained popularity from "We Got Married" where he and Ga In were cast as make-believe husband and wife, he also recorded a duet song with Ga In which topped the chart and received great response. This song was #1 song in the duet category for the first half of the year. He also successfully became a hot topic and popular because of the duet song "The Road To Breakup" which he sang with his vocal teacher, Im Jeong Hee.
Jo Kwon, who is also called "Kkap Kwon", gives off lots of energy and builds a friendly image, he is also chosen to be the best duet partner. Not so long ago, Im Jeong Hee said on a TV show, "Jo Kwon is like vitamin. He gives off fresh feelings to people who are feeling tired. It's fun to be with him."
The energetic Jo Kwon does not only successful in duet songs, but 2AM did an outstanding promotion. 2AM's song "Can't Let You Go Even If I Die" is a hit during the first half of the year and "You Wouldn't Answer My Call" is a hit during the second half of the year. With one hit song after another, they rose to the top of the music charts along with SNSD and gave a tight competition.
Ever since they made their debut in 2008, this is the first time 2AM went on the Golden Disk Award stage and received an award. They were once outshone by their brother group who made their debut at around the same time, but now 2AM is living a different world. "Can't Let You Go Even If I Die" maintained the longest #1 spot during the first half of the year.
For 2AM, receiving warm response like this is an absolute strength. In the world where groups emphasize more on electronic sound and performance, all of 2AM members build their solid existence based on vocal and musicality.
