Days Without You Day One
"Lie, don't lie, don't lie..."
Kwon's left arm reached out instinctively to snooze the alarm on his iPhone, and his head emerged from under his flower print comforter to check the time.
There were no new messages.
It was 8am.
Barely 3 hours since it all ended.
Usually by now he would be hearing the sizzle of breakfast ham accompanied by Changmin's whistles as he tossed the pan, or Seulong shouting in pain from accidentally kicking the dumb bells left by Jinwoon in the hallway. But it was unusually quiet today. Where is everyone?
Kwon tried to sit up but was surprised that every ounce of his muscles were aching. He allowed himself to slide back into the covers. Kwon tried to recall all that had happened in the past 24 hours but he could not remember much, only fragments.
He remembered entering the 2AM dorm and walking in familiar maneuver towards his bedroom. Usually Kwon would do it in pitch darkness, but this morning he was back so late that the first rays of sunrise were starting to flood into the living room through the windows.
This time, I didn't miss the sunrise.
Right now, Kwon found himself still in the same clothes. Or worse, his makeup intact. All the OneDay boys were familiar with crashing into bed without washing up. But not him. This was a first for Kwon.
But what had happened before that? He couldn't recall. Or maybe he just didn't want to.
Was it real? Did it really happen?
"Lie, don't lie, don't lie..."
Damn. I should have switched it off instead of snoozing it.
Maybe i should also change the alarm tone.
Kwon closed his eyes and tried to sleep it off. It worked simply because he was absolutely exhausted.

It was 2pm.
Ga In tried to open her eyes. She rolled to her sides as her Thomas and Friends towel wrapped her up like a cinnamon roll but she could not open her eyes. It was much heavier than usual.
What? Did i cry in my sleep last night?
She reached out for her pocket mirror on the side table and squinted through her eyelids to take a good look at herself. She dropped the mirror on the floor.
Oh God i look like how I did in my high school year book photo.
Just then, Jea burst into the room and started rattling as if she was reciting a long memorised script.
"You're awake? It's already 2.30pm. We have to go for recording later at 4pm with Min Soo oppa, don't forget! The nanny van will come at 3pm, so you only have half an hour to prepare! You haven't had anything to eat have you? I've packed a sandwich for you so you can eat on our way there. You look like a mess! Put more BB cream and draw a thicker eyeline! You're lucky we're only doing vocal recording today." As she stepped out of the door, she shrilled. "If you mess up the recording later we won't forgive you so you better work hard!"
Just as Ga In thought her eyes can't get any puffier, her eyes were wet.
"Thank you, unnie."
Like clockwork, Ga In mindlessly clambered out of bed and something dropped out from the sheets: her phone. As she picked it up, her eyes unwillingly focused on the wallpaper.
A pretty bride was pulling on the bow tie of her groom, he was bending forward with his eyes closed, their lips gently touching.
Ga In felt a sharp pain in her chest. Her fingers were clammy but she managed to switch the phone off and toss it back on the bed. It was 2.40pm. 20 minutes left.
She hastily changed into a random pull over and wore her leggings, and slid into a pair of sneakers. She knows she can't handle heels, not today.
I'll have to do my make up in the van, she thought frantically. Instinctively, she reached for her cosmetics pouch. Her hands touched the handle.
That pouch.
Let go.
Why?
Why not?
I don't have other pouches.
You do, you know it. 12 more in fact. They're in the cupboard.
No time. Only for today.
Just today.
The perfect excuse.
Clutching onto the pouch tightly, Ga In ran out of the door.

4pm.
It was very unlike Kwon to sleep in. The last time he was bedridden was when he was painfully down with the flu, but he had earned himself a flask of ox bone soup carefully boiled through the night. Somehow, right now, he felt that the pain was threefold. Forcing himself to snap out of it he heaved himself up from the covers.
As his feet touched the wooden flooring, he reached out to his phone again.
Still no new messages.
Should i? She must be feeling terrible.
But what should I write?
Maybe later.
Kwon stood up and stepped gingerly out of his bedroom and turned into the bathroom. His eyes caught a note stuck on the mirror in Jinwoon's messy scrawl.
"Kwon ah, no schedule today but we'll be going to the gym. If you want to join us we'll be there. -Seulong"
Kwon turned on the tap to wash up immediately. No time to lose, he thought. There are still many things to do.
Suddenly, his stomach growled. Realising he hasn't eaten anything, he went to the living room. But there were no usual leftovers carefully packed by Changmin for the boys when any of them slept in. He looked up at the couch and suddenly saw her silhouette lying on it. She was haggard and screaming irritably. Kwon quickly tore his eyes away and tried to focus to the left on the computer. She was there again, sitting on that floor chair gaping at his pictures from the Men's Health photoshoot.
Taking a deep breath, Kwon glued his eyes onto the floor, turned and walked into the kitchen, something he hasn't done for a very, very, very long time. Opening the fridge, a pack of cheese dropped out and onto the floor.
As he squatted down to pick it up, his heart skipped a beat. He remembered her, on the exact same spot, 1 year and 3 months ago.
Kwon started to cry as he remained in that position. The fridge door was hanging open, visible wisps of chilled air escaped and begin to play with the curls of his bed hair.

It was 8pm and pitch dark outside, but Brown Eyed Girls wouldn't know because they were still stuck in the windowless recording studio.
"Ga In ah, you're supposed to sound chic but I can't feel any emotion from you." Jea calmly spoke.
"It's not working. She has been singing that same line for 15 times. At least she'd hit the right notes. Let's just use the best one and autotune it." Lee Min Soo decided.
No more words were spoken as Lee Min Soo turned off the sound system and begin to process the recordings. Ga In, Miryo, Narsha and Jea took off their headphones and stepped out of the recording room.
"Unnie, oppa, I'm really sorry. Please forgive me." said Ga In pleadingly.
"Let's just go for dinner, I'm famished!" Narsha was already picking up her bag.
As they bade goodbye to Lee Min Soo and left the building, they walked down the cold night street. The three unnies of BEG chatted noisily while Ga In trailed silently behind them. They reached the nearest restaurant and entered.
It was a relatively quiet night. There were only an old couple, two rugged looking men and three office ladies inside. None of them seemed to notice BEG. They chose a seat near the door.
"Ahjumma, the usual please." Miryo piped to the stall owner.
"Ahhh...? Yes! Coming right up." The stall owner frowned and tried to recall what the usual was.
There was no "usual". BEG had only been there twice, once to celebrate Abracadabra's all-kill on the charts, and the other was for Miryo's birthday last year. Unless there was something worth celebrating Nega never allowed them to have such meals. Ga In's mind worked quickly. She knew that her BEG unnies were going out of their way to make her feel better.
Ga In wanted to thank them, but her mouth couldn't open.
"Thank you for coming, please come again~" the stall owner chimed as the old couple stood up to leave. Her assistant rushed to clean up the table.
The old couple stopped at the door, and the old lady looked at Ga In. Ga In looked up and their eyes met.
"You're so good with kids. You'll be a good mother."
"Don't worry about the kiss. He will give you a proper one in due time." The old man laughed.
The old couple smiled, bowed and left. They obviously haven't heard.
Ga In felt a huge lump in her throat and forced her eyes not to blink out tears.
Not now, not in front of my unnies.
"Hey! Do you know on my last day of Volume Up Rain oppa actually sent me a message?" Narsha gushed abruptly in an unnaturally exaggerated fangirl mode.
"Oppa!? are you kidding me!" Jea and Miryo jeered in unison.
The food came. Four bowls of ginseng chicken porridge. Each bowl had a juicy looking chicken thigh, a small abalone, and generous chunks of octopus.
Just like how she cooked it. For him.
Ga In lowered her head to avoid looking at her unnies. As her spoon dipped into the bowl, her tears did too.

9pm.
As Kwon and the other 2AM members left the gym in the nanny van, familiar looking IAMs were gathered at the curb just in time to see them drive past.
The girls shouted and waved, but the boys couldn't hear anything. Kwon was slumped in his seat and for the first time, he didn't look out of the window to smile or wave back. As the van made a turn out of the driveway and out of the gate, something caught Kwon's eyes. He turned his head in time to see a badly painted pink banner held up by five unsmiling girls in their high school uniforms. Two of them were crying.
"Adam Couple is Forever."
Kwon stared hard at the banner as it got smaller and smaller and finally disappeared out of sight. He read the words over and over but his mind was still in a blank.
