Q: Youre dark all over from your face to your thighs. Did you just play somewhere?
A: Haha. I have some free time lately. I went out to play with Chan Sung and the guys from 2PM yesterday.
Q: When you guys get together, do you drink all through the night?
A: Actually we dont drink much when we get together. We just chat. But today I must go out for a drink.
Q: Why today?
A: Because of this photoshoot I had to loose some weight, and I didnt drink because my face has to come out pretty. Since now its over, I want to have a drink. Beer! Totally crave it.
Q: You dont get to eat in order to shape your body. Are you happy with that? You have to stuff yourself with eggs only and now
A: Ah, eggs, Im really sick of it. When I was working on shaping my body, I couldnt eat salty things and I couldnt eat sweet things. When I went out I couldnt do anything at all. So I just blankly sat around alone. I told people to just talk among themselves
not fun living like that. I think food is the most important thing in the world.
Q: If you are aware of it, why cant you just forget about your muscles?
A: *sigh* I have no choice. Because once you revealed your body, if later on people see your degraded body, they will be disappointed
Actually Im pretty satisfied myself. If you have a healthy body, youll also have a healthy mind anyway.
Q: Are you strong-willed?
A: If you dont have a strong will, you cant do it. Its not that you only do it for two or three days, and its not just about working out, you have to give your all and try your best to do it. If it wasnt like that, I wouldnt be here now. Compared to other groups, this is how 2AM thinks.
Q: Do you mean since youre 2AM, you have to be even stronger?
A: We are the only ballad idols, so at first everything was very vague. As pioneers, we were very worried about how we should do things. Of course we all worked very hard, but looking at dance groups, since they have different elements in their images, it looks like quite a lot of them soared to stardom right away. I think we were not like that, we really put in lots of effort and gradually achieved our goal.
Q: The word putting a lot of effort does cover it all, but at the same time it felt as though theres nothing else.
A: Effort is indeed important, but luck and timing matters too. For example, because Im in the position where I have to show many different things to the public, I have to constantly check out what is hot nowadays and what draws peoples attention. Thats why its not all about effort but luck and timing has to be perfect too.
Q: Where do you go to know those kinds of things?
A: Naver, I read Daum News, and I buy a lot of magazines as well. And (Park) Jin Young Hyung once said that we should always read collection books. Guys usually dont spend their money on stuff like that, but I do. I have even read the F/W collection. (t/n: Fall/Winter Collection)
Q: Is that so? Then how about some Seul Ongs evaluations?
A: Haha. There are so many things that I dont know what I should say. In my opinion, Burberry Prorsum and Balmain are the prettiest. And Im a bit tired of Givenchy. Many people wear it these days so I have no mood to buy it anymore, do you understand? Nowadays military pattern is a hit. The color of the punching hoodie Im wearing now is khaki too
Q: It seems like you will go wild when you go out shopping.
A: Right, people around me often told me to stop shopping. Told me to stop buying clothes. Haha.
Q: Then whats the most expensive thing you bought recently?
A: Can I say something like that? Can it go on record? Mmm
B brand pants. I really, really took a plunge and bought it.
Q: Is there anything you want to buy but cant buy?
A: Three things. The first is Burberry Prorsums leather jacket. The sleeves are long, but the overall length is quite short so i think I cant wear it that often, and the size doesnt fit. The second one is a waterproof jumper, but now the weather is like this so I dont think I can wear it now
The last thing is Christian Louboutins sneakers. I wonder if I can buy those.
Q: You once said you dreamed of becoming a fashion editor one day.
A: If I had not been a singer, I would have entered the fashion industry. I have been very interested in fashion since I was in the first year of high school. I did a lot of work with my friends at Dongdaemun, we got our stuff there and did some business. At that time street fashion entered Korea, hip-hopper, and sites like those came and went. I spent all day at Myeongdong and Dongdaemun, looking for something like Avirexs leather jumper, I even bought crazy pants and wore them. Anyway, I always wanted to try to be a stylist, designer, fashion editor or something else in that area. That dream is still alive. When Im over 30 years old, I want to go to England and study there to become a fashion designer.
Q: You participated in the making of your stage outfits for You Wouldnt Answer My Call. Isnt that considered a start?
A: How do you know about that? I have asked them not to tell anybody outside the company
When we did Like Crazy and You Wouldnt Answer My Call, I work with our chief stylist from head to toe, it was so much fun. How about this fabric, what if we put the ribbon here, how should we put it, at times like that time did fly so quickly.
Q: If you are popular, other dreams you want to accomplish seem nearer than you think. There are ways to do a collaborative work.
A: I want to but Im a bit shy, and I dont think now is the time. The thing I want to do are music, acting and fashion. Those three things. All of them are number one for me. They are all tie in the number one spot. But since now I have started with two of them, I should do well in those things first.
Q: Occasionally Jo Kwons long period of training gets the spotlight, but you yourself prepared quite a long time to become a singer. Was it difficult?
A: I trained for over 3 years. The day before we debuted, my heart dropped to like 200 floors to the basement. Because its not like singing during practice or singing during recording. In This Song I have to sing Pretty necklace~, but the word pretty was really hard to sing. I was so worried about how I should do it.
Q: On the other hand Jin Woon and Chang Min debuted without having to practice that long.
A: They actually debuted a few days after they joined in. At that time I was a bit upset. That made me wary. But come to think of it, both of them also did some training out there, so its the same. They have experience in practicing music. They only didnt learn the things about being entertainers. We didnt just go to a club and sing. We had to learn Chinese, English, Japanese. Dance class, acrobatic class, and we even took acting class.
Q: So you started acting last year. The acting
A: Ah, when I first started acting, I once again dropped 200 floors to the basement
Q: Did you immediately show that you work hard?
A: For the first week I couldnt think of what we were shooting. If I think of it now, I still dont know how I did Tae Hoons character. I am not a fun and silly person. Anyway, I went in blindly and so I thought I had no choice but to overdo.
Q: Last year in the one-act play (Dosirak), you played the role of a frivolous station employee. And you showed all kinds of careless behavior in entertainment shows with 2AM, then when you modeled for chicken and ham advertisement, we thought thats how you normally are.
A: That image is totally different from my real self. I like something a bit strong, manly, monotone and intense. I always watch wrestling shows with Jin Woon, we also have wrestling war on the floor only in our underwear. Haha. Then (Jo) Kwon kun comes out and acts as a referee. I think people see me like that because I did a lot of entertainment shows. Although 2AM has the image as singers, it vanishes in entertainment shows. Also when I promoted Nagging with IU, I was all cute and sweet
Now I want to change my image a bit. Actually the current image is not that different from my real self, but the me you see in TV shows is the basically edited side of me. Actually my characters and my preferences are not like that.
Q: We do not meet here today to talk about and promote a movie or a drama. If right now you can choose and do whatever movie you want, what will it be?
A: The one I really want to try is noir! (note: Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and sexual motivations.)
Q: But it can be quite uncomfortable if youre not careful?
A: If you do it properly, it wont be. I can do it.
Q: Seul Ongie, who constantly says I love you, I miss you to his friends in Twitter, wants to do a noir movie?
A: Haha. I wrote those because I was lonely. Now is the time I feel lonely the most. Its spring and my schedule is not fully packed. Today I had a date with my manager, we ate together and had some ice cream in a cafe. Whats that, exactly.
Q: If you have a girlfriend, is she going to be number one?
A: Honestly, if I find a woman whom Im going to marry, shell be number two.
Q: Such a cold-hearted man.
A: I have no choice. There are lots of things I want to do.
