Nakai Masahiro & Ninety-Nine chosen as main hosts for FNS 27-Hour TV

On June 21st, SMAPs Nakai Masahiro (38) and comedy duo Ninety-Nine attended the Tokyo press conference for the upcoming FNS 27-Hour TV, which will air July 23-24. The three men will host the show together for the first time since 2004.
A number of events planned for the 27-hour special were announced, such as a Restoration Talk segment in Miyagi prefecture hosted by celebrity Akashiya Sanma (55), a Bistro SMAP Business Trip, where SMAP members travel to Iwate and Fukushima prefectures to cook for regular people, and a 27-hour, 100 km (~62 mi) marathon that Ninety-Nines Yabe Hiroyuki (39) will attempt to run.
This years event will be called FNS27 Hour TV Mecha mecha dejitteru! Egao ni narenakya terebi janai jan! (FNS27 Hour TV gone digital! If it doesnt make you smile, its not TV!), and the show will aim to put a smile on the face of those affected by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as the rest of the Japanese people. The program will end right as all Japanese TVs (except for Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures) are switched to digital broadcast and analog TV is discarded forever. It will be scheduled around several of FNSs popular variety shows and will focus on the forthcoming major event in TV history.
The plan to send Sanma and SMAP members to the affected areas of Japan is one of the shows main events, or Three Great Smile Plans, and like the title says, will aim to put a smile on the face of the people most affected by the disaster. Sanma and SMAPs plan will be called the Tohoku Smile Project. Yabes marathon will be called the 27-hour 100-km Marathon, and will serve to place the spotlight on the half of Ninety-Nine who is used to hiding behind his partner. FNS also plans to include a Bad Singing Smile Project, a popular segment of variety show Mecha Ike.
When it was announced that Yabe would be running the 100-km marathon, a shocked Nakai said, Really!? Yabe answered, They wouldnt take no for an answer. They said I had to run
Im out of shape and it makes me nervous. Ninety-Nines Okamura Takashi (40) joked, Thats scary. Well lose one of the emcees.
Also attending the press conference were 27-hour TVs supporting announcers Shono Yoko, Kato Ayako, Matsumura Mio, Yamazaki Yuki, and celebrity Matsuko Deluxe (38). Antonio Inoki (68) also made a guest appearance.
The program will air on Fuji TV from 6:30 PM JST on July 23rd to 8:54 PM JST on July 24th.
