Drama Casting & News Full House 2 confirms Noh Min-woo, Hwang Jung-eum by javabeans | September 29, 2011 | 94 Comments
And here I thought this casting rumor was all full of hot air. But as it turns out, Full House 2 is back in the works, and has confirmed its leads after dancing around the topic for ages. Theyll be played by two up-and-comers, Noh Min-woo (Midas, My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho) and Hwang Jung-eum (Can You Hear My Heart?, High Kick Through the Roof).
If youre like me, you probably thought rumors of a Full House sequel would pop up every year from now to eternity without a drama ever actually materializing. After all, sequel rumors have been floating around practically since the original rom-com miniseries hit 40%+ ratings back in 2004 and made two superstars (Rain, Song Hye-gyo) even superer. And I recall last hearing news about a sequel three years ago, with nothing coming of it.
Even when the Noh-Hwang rumors started circulating recently, I wrote them off because they were followed by the usual flurry of denials from the actors. But with casting announced as official today, I guess this sucker may really happen after all.
In case youre unfamiliar with the original series (who are you and where have you been for seven years?): Full House was one of the earlier examples of several plot devices that have since been used and abused by practically every single rom-com afterward. We had the movie-star hero, the gorgeous heroine who was called ordinary looking (pfft), the co-habitation setup, the landlord/maid scenario, the contract marriage, and the bickering-as-foreplay. Theres the hyung-as-Daddy-Long-Legs, too, and a first love who wont go away. Rain played the movie star jerkwad (also former med school student and son of rich family, of course) who buys Song Hye-gyos house
which shes swindled out of by her friends, who need the money and are somehow able to convey the deed. Left homeless, the heroine becomes maid to the new owner, then agrees to contract-marry him, and lots of fluffy cuteness (with the requisite head-scratching separation angst) ensues.
Since its unlikely that the so-called sequel will actually be a continuation of the original story, which already got its happy ending, it remains to be seen whether Full House 2 will just take the concept and refashion it into a new version of the same story. Or, you know, you could just slap the Full House 2 title onto any contract-cohabitation drama in the past seven years, since those have basically used all the same tricks.
