[REPORT] JYJ ROCKS BERLIN, GERMANY
Recently, JYJ traveled to Berlin, Germany as part of their world tour. Our dear video editor, Hichan, attended this amazing show! Read on to find out how everything went.
When it comes to me there have always been exactly two major reasons why I have never been to a KPOP concert before. Number one is the obvious lack of the above in Germany, and number two is my personal dislike towards euphoric events and gatherings. When I heard of the JYJ concert, I decided to go at least once and decide for myself whether I would be able to enjoy it or whether the lack of control of the fans would ruin the whole atmosphere. To my surprise the fans were beyond my expectations, at least most of them. So I have to be honest and say that I am really proud of the fans that were at the Berlin concert; they were really amazing.
As most of you might have already heard, the organization for the concert was a complete mess, since the VIP and SuperVIP tickets were gone before the official time, and afterwards in order to compensate, there was the possibility to exchange a normal ticket to a VIP ticket. In my case I simply bought a normal one and stayed with it till the end, since the Tempodrom is a very impressive hall in which it is hard to get a very bad seat.
My experience in Berlin began with a fan meeting, which was organized by the European Fanclub Phoenix. The idea was to give a white light stick to everyone in order to create a white ocean for In Heaven. The fan meeting was also for those who wanted to give presents and letters to JYJ.
After the fan meeting, some friends of mine and I were walking through Berlin and missed Junsu by 30 minutes. Everyone was complaining about the boy coming to the Brandenburger Tor when everyone else already left. On Saturday, my group and I were standing in front of the venue at 6 in the morning, so that we could get pretty nice seats with our normal tickets. To our surprise the woman at the ticket booth did not want to give us the seats we wanted, but since the Tempodrom is a good hall, our seats were still wonderful. Unfortunately there was a 30 minutes delay with the ticket exchange so that we had to wait 4 ½ hours all together, just to get our seats. But of course there were also a lot of people who simply slept in front of the venue.
There is one thing that was definitely special for the concert in Berlin. I have never seen so many foreign people in one place. I was able to talk to people from France, Italy, Czech Republic, England, Croatia, Luxembourg, Russia, Ukraine, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden and of course Germany. It was really impressive to see how music brings so many different people together. Since I am of the opinion that it is impossible to describe music or how impressive their dancing was I will not do so, but I will describe what happened around all of that. As soon as the singing and dancing started I actually thought that the screaming would begin, but although the fans showed their enthusiasm they were quiet enough to hear all of the singing and especially in the MC Sessions it got quiet. What I disliked about the MC Sessions was that the male translator we had didnt have such good English pronunciation and was speaking very quietly most of the time. However the female MC compensated pretty well since she was really amazing when it came to bring in some fun into the way she repeated their words. I do not remember what exactly was said in what order, but the boys began with introducing themselves in German, which sounded really cute since they seemed to have problems with making the i sound. Of course the fans were still delighted to hear them speak their language.
Yoochun started the conversation with explaining that he was at a German bar and figured out that the girls there were really tall, to which Jaejoong replied that he is of the opinion that men should be taller than their girlfriends. He ended his explanation with saying that the guys will have to wear higher shoes then. To show that the boys got to know the country, they were asked what kind of German food they tried and what words they learned. Junsu began with simple things like Thank you and Hello. The last one he said made the fans crack up since it means something like All right?!, which was very cute. Yoochun decided to go a bit farther and warned the fans that he was told to be careful with this one and said Whazzup? in German (of course with the fitting hand motion). In order to prove how amazing they can already communicate Yoochun, walked towards Junsu asking him his amazing new learned words, to which Junsu replied with his and both made sure to get laughter to fill the hall. Jaejoong just smiled with a hand in front of his mouth while watching them. He mentioned that he felt pressured and that he only learned simple things for the concert like Berlin where are you?! to which the fans replied with a very loud HERE!.
When the question came to food, Yoochun mentioned drinking beer (since as mentioned before he was at the bar) and eating German Schnitzel, which he called fish at first. Jaejoong added Tequila, which turned into the explanation for him looking the most tired and sausages. Lastly he added: I`m pretty sure that I gained weight from the beer and the sausages.
In spite of the other boys saying completely normal things, Junsu seemingly decided to create something that would turn into a quote which was: Well, I really liked German bananas. All together Junsu seemed to be in the best condition and was also the one who had to speak the most and answer most of the questions asked. Jaejoong and Yoochun were always poking him when it came to answering. When asked what the fans should be taking home, Yoochun started with Junsus butt, which Jaejoong continued with Junsus butt. Well of course, the music and the atmosphere, but what we want to get rid of is Junsus butt and lastly Junsu finished with my butt and just joking. Junsu also mentioned that he always wanted to go to Germany, since Levay is German and the man is like a father figure to him. He wanted to meet him, but since Levay does not live in Berlin he wasnt able to. The fans answered him with a sad oh~, which they were doing quite a lot to be honest. After Mission, Jaejoong told everybody that Junsu wrote the song and complained about the One More Time part, since it was already hard enough to dance the choreography of the chorus once. Why did he have to repeat it?
The commentary was working really well and it really seemed like a conversation with the boys and the fans, because it was quiet as long as the boys were speaking and then a reaction to what was said followed. The solo projects were impressive, especially their voices and the fans sang along to the main parts of all of the solos, which definitely made the boys happy since Junsu was smiling without a break. It was really calming to see him happy like that.
A Jaejoong Fanclub organized green light sticks for his solo, but unfortunately it was only for him and the other two were without any special projects like that. It seemed very unfair to me.
All three of them seemed to be very impressed by the fans. Especially when everyone danced along to Be My Girl and even security guards commented on how impressive the fans were. Every time Yoochun told the crowd to stand up, everyone did and jumped along. The communication was really amazing. In addition the fans found perfect times to sing along and do the fan chants. A moment I remember very well is when the fans were cheering and Jaejoong announced that now they would be singing their last song and then the crowd sighed very loudly followed by the shouting of Kagima (dont go) in unison. JYJ seemed to be at a loss of words since they just smiled and looked at each other, already feeling bad for having to announce that. As soon as Jaejoongs hand with the microphone moved towards his lips the hall was as quiet as it only could be. No one said anything and Jaejoong was immediately at a loss of words only breathing into the microphone until he got himself back together and said that they will still be singing their last song. The last song was In Heaven and the white light stick project worked really well. The boys were touched and it was easy to feel the passion flowing through the hall. When the boys left the stage after In Heaven it was obvious that there had to be an encore, so the fans were screaming JYJ in perfect unison, which transformed into Saranghae. The transition was perfect and soon after the boys appeared again to finish the concert with Get Out and other dance songs, that completed the hype and left everybody with a very good feeling. I haven`t met anybody yet who told me that they didnt like the concert.
Unfortunately, Yoochun seemed to have quite a lot of issues with his microphone though, since he danced with one hand and was very quiet in some songs. I can imagine that he was very upset because of that.
The concert had a perfect end for me when I walked towards the exit and overheard two male security guards in their 30s:
1: Hey those fans were really amazing! 2: If you ask me, those boys were even better
