มาแปะ Insider's blog for 9.13 "A Desperate Man"
This show, as you may have heard, is like a family. And like all normal American families, we sit down every week together to watch our favorite TV show. (Hint: Its first initial is ‘N’ and its last is ‘S’). But for us, we don’t have your traditional living room or family room setting. We watch in the lunch area during the cast and crew break on one of the massive soundstages here in Valencia, California. Multiple screens, stereo surround sound… the whole shebang. Only thing better would be 3-D glasses (I’m working on that). We typically watch the day the episode airs, and today was that day. I’ll admit it’s a bit nerve-wracking to watch your episode with the cast and crew. In my opinion, they’re our best critics. Because they know the script better than anyone. They brought it to life. You want them to be happy with the end product. Feel as good about their work as you do. And today, I think they did. At least, I hope they did. The response was great.
Everyone was blown away by Cote de Pablo’s performance. Her work every week is stellar, but this episode really lives or dies on her emotional arc, and Cote just nailed it. There’s a Tony/Ziva (yes, “Tiva”) scene on a rooftop that had the room near tears. She’s so honest and real and beautiful in it. I cannot praise her enough for that scene and every other. Thank you, Cote. As the great Josh Rexon says, “You Rock!” Michael Weatherly rocked it in this episode, too. The story touches on some pretty heavy stuff – love, loss, death, regret – And Michael navigated every emotion with subtlety and depth. His scene with Detective Nick Burris at the house is one of my favorites. And speaking of Nick Burris, we were blessed with the insane talent of Louis Ferreira. Thanks to Susan and Jason in casting for bringing him to us. He embodied that character completely. Brought such nuance and grace to the role. And Michael Beach as Burris’s partner, Detective Flowers, was fantastic as well. These guys are total pros, and our cast loved working with them. As always, a special thanks to Mark Harmon for being the strong emotional core to our show. He’s incredibly good here, as are Sean Murray and Pauley Perrette.
The brilliant Leslie Libman made this episode truly shine. Leslie understood and loved the story from day one, and did an incredible job at layering every scene with emotion. There’s a mood and a tone that I love. It’s emotional without being melodramatic. Honest without being too “on-the-nose.” That’s all Leslie, and I cannot thank her enough. Oh, and she happens to be one of the nicest, funniest, hippest ladies around. We had a blast together on set. Looking forward to the next time!
As always, GIGANTIC praise and gratitude to our crew. And to our fans who tune in week after week, episode after episode. Hope you enjoyed the journey of “A Desperate Man.”
