D.N.A. JONG UP The 5th up, we’ll investigate the identity of our new agent, Jongup! Hello, I’m Jongup, who is in charge of B.A.P’s vocal and choreography. My charming point is dancing on stage I think. I like various types of dancing like popping, bboying, and other street dancing and I’m confident to perform them. I normally like listening to songs from “Chris Brown.” Do you know how much I like Chris Brown? I never go without a day in going over music videos of musicians on my iPod. When seeing the awesome performances of music videos from international artists, I often get surprised. I want to go to America myself to see these performances with my own two eyes. It hasn’t been long since “Warrior” was released and I don’t know what to do in receiving all of this love. I toss and turn at night in thinking that I have to show an even better image of myself and I’m working hard on practicing, so anticipate lots for me. I tend to be competitive so I can never forgive myself for going back on my promise to myself! Investigation of agent Jongup is finished! I’ll work hard, yes sir!
MATO# RABBIT The rabbit whose eye smiles are charming and has wings attached. What would happen if I become the robot bunny from planet Mato? I’ve always had this dream of flying in the sky one day so I wish I can have wings. Also, I wish for my rabbit to have round eyes and a smiling face since my character’s face is a bit scrunched in giving it a whole new look and making a ‘bunny with a twist.’
What I’m in charge of at the dorm. My mother owns a restaurant so I’ve always done a lot of dish washing since I was younger, so I’m in charge of dish washing at our dorm. However, there are times I sleep because I’m tired and Yongguk hyung does it for me without me knowing it or even the house chores in general which I’m always grateful for.
B.A.P# FIRST SINGLE ALBUM Q: What point in the choreography should we be aware of for the title song “Warrior”? JU: Director Park Sanghyun of “Play” was in charge of our choreography and “stomp” dance, which is considered the climax of this performance, is the main point. The sounds of our feet rolling and our claps alongside our deep breaths, it’s a performance different than the average idols’ so I wish for everyone to watch it with much attention. You’ll probably think of it as a ‘non-verbal performance’ in which it’s just our body gestures that make the beat.
Q: All the members of B.A.P are being critiqued as “charming idols with a twist” meaning that you all can’t be judged just by looks. Who is the most charming in the group? JU: I’m jealous of Zelo’s innocence and his expressional ways. Because he’s able to express how he feels right away, we think it’s really cute yet funny. There are a lot of times when Zelo falls asleep first in waiting in line to wash up and when we wake him up, he would say these odd things as if he were speaking a foreign language. He would wash up after having woken up, then we would put him back to bed. Sometimes, Yongguk hyung would joke around in telling him to hurry and wake up and Zelo would be so scared that he’s stand up so straight which is so cute to see.
Q: What was the first trigger to motivate you to become a singer if there were any, and how did you first come across your musical talent? JU: In my first year of junior high, we were deciding on our specialties and my close friend chose “dance” to go into and I chose “cross-stitch” which was really unrelated. At first, I used to just wait for my friend in the practice room and I transitioned into practicing with him and since then, I’ve fallen for the charms of dancing. While being in the school dance club, we went to competitions also and were even awarded, which fueled my greed for wanting to do better. That friend of mine is in a different crew now and is still dancing.
Q: What was the moment when you felt, “Being a singer isn’t as easy as it looks!” while preparing for B.A.P’s album? JU: When practicing didn’t go the way I wanted it to. During the time I was in a slump, I really thought that being a singer wasn’t all that easy as it appears. If there’s a cure to treating a slump, my personal method is to “think in a different way.” Rather than being so sucked into one thing, I try to look for other genres and am very forward about finding other things. If not, I also just don’t think of anything in emptying my heart and mind which I find as an effective method to treating a slump.
