Please tell me I am not the only one scratching my head in confusion so is it G or TY? Should I be happy or sad? OMG this is the most confusing finale ever. But I cant say it wasnt good. I still loved it. Just wish someone could make some sense out of this for me. How does TY suddenly become G unless he was G from the start. as in TY recognized H right away as the love of his life cuz when G was reincarnated, his love for H was still intact. Why do I feel like I got my happy ending, but I just missed it somehow.

They really are coming full circle. RP started with the Joseon setting so now they are ending with it. To think last night I thought everything would be simple and easy to clear up, but that preview clip has me all turned around again. Did Bu Yong die in that pond? Or possibly - like many suspected, G managed to go back to Joseon before that fateful night to stop everything from happening. You have to admit, this drama is pretty ambitious. They plan to reunite G and H AND still have time to resolve that conspiracy back in Joseon to kill G all under an hour. I always said this drama packed in a lot each episode, but now they are really going all out. With so much to cover, it has quite a task ahead. How are they planning to tie up so many loose ends and still give us a happy ending back in present time for H. Guess some of us are not all that curious how they will resolve things back in Joseon as long as they fit in more than 5 mins worth of a reunion. By some of us, I mean moi. The first episode was one of my favorite cuz it was so great to see Micky back in sageuk apparel, but his character has evolved since then. In the present time, G had to step aside and let someone else take control or lead him since he was in unfamiliar territory, but tonight we get to see him back in his elements. Even in that short scene with G bellowing orders, he really looks like a man fully in control of his destiny. Now if only fate would respect him and see that G sort of earned his happy ending. I dont know how this finale is going to do it, but I will be cheering it on all the way to the credits.
I want to take this time to thank all of you who followed this drama and left so many encouraging comments, torrents, links, and gifs along the way. Thank you for always making this blogging experience worthwhile. Normally at this point, I type up a list of familiar names from each recap, but I recently realized it looks bad if I end up leaving someone out by accident. So just to be sure not to hurt anyones feelings, I would like to thank you all as one group of RP fans who stuck with this drama through all those highs and a few hiccups. I really hope our united faith in this drama carries on in this finale. Thank you for sharing your love of Rootop Prince.
The finale
Starts from a barn (chicken coop?) G appears wearing his suit. He opens his eyes and looks around. He sees people staring at him funny. He runs out and looks around. Some guards come running saying catch him. G runs into C. they run together. G asks why are they following us. he tells C to go another way but C says no. G pushes him anyway. Guards split up and half chase C and other chase G. G hides and avoids them. He sees C on the ground and thinks he was dying but C put ketchup on his mouth to pretend to be dying. C says how hungry he has been. C says if they go looking like this they will be dragged to prison. G spots M and Y dressed as normal joseon people. They are drinking beer. They gave some lady gum in exchange for food. G says he is thirsty and tries to drink the beer but its empty. He asks for more but Y says there arent anymore. They tell him to change into his royal attire
Bu yongs dad hears the prince came back. He is back at the palace. He tells joseon T (JT). her dad says didnt you say you got rid of the prince. JT goes out and kills some guy for making a mistake. JT: From here on there wont be any mistakes
The 3 guys bow to G. G asks if they saw their family. Each guy mentions his visit. M says how his sister clung to him cuz they hadnt met in a while. G says their past life was a dream but the 3 of them say they still remember H and her rooftop home so well so it wasnt a dream. G orders the investigation and for the princess family brought to the palace.
Bu Yongs mom asks her husband what is going on. he says it will be over soon. Guards come in and take them into custody
G questions her family. Her dad lies and says how they have been sad since the princess death. G asks where Bu Yong is. Her mom says how sick she is and in her room. G goes along and says then I cant meet her. but I am going to look into the princess murder
G narrates how the princess death occurred a few days ago. flashback to Bu Yong hiding and watching G from afar. She trips and falls. G comes along and tells her to stay put. Arent you Bu Yong. He holds out his hand to help her up. She spilled some stuff so she picks up the case and gets up. He asks if she fell down again. He asks what she has in her hand. Why do you have white powder. She says its for the princess makeup. he asks if she solved his riddle yet. She says not yet. He says if you dont solve by tm I won. Go that?
Bu Yong gives the princess a letter from their father and the powder from their brother. Princess reads the letter and knows its poison so she tells bu yong not to touch the powder case. Go back now. Bu Yong gives her the handkerchief for the prince. Princess tells her to go back now. Bu yong says their dad told her to take back the letter after princess reads it. princess calls for some glue
bu yong walks by. she sees JT with her dad. her dad asks if she gave the stuff to the princess. She says yes I did father.
Bu yong asks her mom about JT and her mom says JT was a half brother of the prince but was kicked out of the palace. Bu yong asks why he is around their home so much with the dad but her mom says thats your dads business. Go and rest.
Bu yong is stitching and remembers how she spilled that powder and how she told her sister it smelled different. She mutters aloud it didnt smell like regular powder. She remembers her dads letter. She goes and opens it and reads it. in the letter he said tonight is the night. Dont make mistakes.
Her dad remembers he didnt get his letter back so he sends a guy to go get it back from bu yong. The guy goes to bu yong but she has already ran off. He sees that she read that letter
The guy reports to JT that bu yong read the letter. JT says catch her and if you need to kill her.
Bu yong remembers the letter telling the princess to put the poisoned powder on the persimmon. When the servant serves the persimmon the princess asks if the food was checked for safety. The servant says yes. Her dad instructed the princess to distract the prince while she puts the poisoned powder on the persimmon. So she gives him the handkerchief to admire and then puts the poison on the persimmon. He says how he met her sister today. How she fell and spilled the princess makeup. He says the persimmon looks tasty cuz its so white. By yong runs in and waits outside. aide calls out bu yong is here. he doesnt eat yet and wonders what brought bu yong here. he allows her to come in. Bu yong sits and says I have something urgent to tell you so I came. But the princess tells her to go back and come during the day. But G allows bu yong to speak. She says I solved the riddle. He laughs and says you solved it. lets hear the answer. She says the answer is buyong. Princess says how could the answer be your name. Go back. G says lets hear the reason. She says how bu yong is lotus. Lotus has to die to become a flower. So it will live, it has to die. he laughs and says its correct. I lost. Princess tells her to go back now. But bu yong says since I solved the riddle, please give me a reward. She asks for the persimmon to eat as her reward. The princess looks bothered. G says he wanted to give her a big award so will this persimmon be ok. Bu yong says yes. This is plenty. He says ok you can eat this persimmon as much as you want. She thanks him. She reaches out her hand to hold one and cries as she starts to eat it one by one. After she is done, he says its late at night so be careful going back. She gets up and bows. The princess cries. Bu yong sl:-) backs out and leaves the room.
Bu yong is dizzy and aide asks if she is ok. Bu yong says if the princess looks for me, tell her I will be (some room in the palace)
Bu yong can barely walk straight. She makes it across the bridge
Princess watches G sleeping. She gets up and leaves.
Bu yong is by the pond leaning against a tree. She cries and remembers her walk with her sister and G. then how G helped her stand after she fell.
The princess runs to meet Bu yong. She orders her aides to turn off the lights. She makes them wait at a distance before she goes in the room
Princess yells at her for what she did messing up everything- did you think if you ate the poisoned persimmon that our family would be safe. Bu yong begs her to protect the prince.
Some men run in the dark (its JT and his men).
Bu yong says they will find out about the poisoned persimmon when they find my body. They will kill our family. You will lose your life too. Princess says you made it turn out this way. Bu yong says change clothes with me. No one will know and think you drowned. that way you and our family can live. If you arent around (as the princess) then father wont kill the prince and that way we can protect the prince. We have no time.
JT kills the princess aides. He watches the princess run off dressed as bu yong
Bu yong writes a last letter and coughs up blood. She hides it behind a partition.
Bu yong stands by the bridge. She looks up at the moon crying. she calls out your highness. She closes her eyes and falls in.
End of flashback
G remembers seeing the princess in the pond. Then how H almost died in the lake. G is still standing in front of her parents. G asks why arent you answering me. Her parents think the princess died in the pond and bu yong is sick so G asks did you see bu yong today. Her mom says she is sick so she is locked in her room. G orders the guards to find bu yong.
Guards find bu yong so G asks are you bu yong. JT and his men attack so JT fights G. he shoots an arrow at G and suddenly Y puts his sword to JTs throat. JT hit Gs necklace so G is safe.
G orders the princess to lift her face and remove the face cover. He sees its the princess. She begs him for her life. he says why would I save you. you didnt act like a princess. you should be begging for Bu Yongs life. Y asks G what happened. G pulls out his necklace and shows his pendant saying H saved my life. G: that dummy.
G lists all the things Bu yongs dad did wrong and then he says what JT did wrong who he killed how he plotted to become king. He bans the princess and her family for bu yongs sake but kills the rest.
G walks alone and remembers back to his time with H.
He goes to his room and the yellow butterfly glows. He goes over to touch it. its the partition with the letter Bu yong hid. He finds it and reads it. if you see this it means you are alive. Its me bu yong. All the things I kept in my heart all my life I get to say now so its nice. I loved you. I liked you all my life. she repeats the riddle. even though hundreds of years pass, I will love you.
G stands by the pond and cries remembering her letter. He runs and goes and writes a letter to H. I arrived safely. How are you doing. He hides his letter where he hid that round circular thing he gave H.
H goes over to that spot and digs up his note. Its old and faded. She smiles and cries. She sits and reads it. G: if you see this letter 300 yrs has passed. I take back calling you a dummy. Is your juice business doing well. I miss you. I want to hear your voice. I want to touch you. if I could die to meet you I wish I could die right now. I want to say I love you again. I love you. I want to see your smiling face. Be well. TY goes and orders juice from her.
The trio have a successful omurice business back in joseon and C says the ketchup is the key.
G is wearing his track suit. G asks why they are so late. The guys came wearing their track suit too. they bring him omurice. G says lets eat. They asks why he is crying. G says cuz the omurice is so delicious. They give him peppermint to eat. Y doesnt chomp to they all get mad at him.
H goes to her store and there is a postcard and a note to meet at seoul tower. Her sketch was drawn by TY.
H goes to meet him. Suddenly TY is standing there. he asks why are you so late. I waited for you from a long time ago. H: where were you. I was here all this time. he holds out his hand.
Suddenly he turns into G: even though 300 yrs passed. H: I love you.
