Ch 7 to raise TV advertising rates amid strong demand
Channel 7 will raise advertising rates by as much as 7 per cent as of October 1 in line with the tight demand for ad spots on free TV, according to Maybank Kim Eng Securities (Thailand).
Channel 3 is expected to follow suit after an earlier rate adjustment for some programmes, the brokerage house said.
Channel 7's prime-time programmes include evening news shows and prime-time dramas.
Evening dramas currently have ad rates of Bt480,000 per minute, which will be raised more than 4 per cent to Bt500,000 with no discount. The effective ad rate for prime-time dramas will then be 23 per cent higher than on Channel 3, whose effective rate is Bt408,000 per minute after a 15-per-cent discount from the actual rate of Bt480,000.
Channel 7's rate increase indicates the tight demand for free-TV ads, with growth prospects from fast-growing satellite TV.
July advertising expenditure hit another record for the year at Bt10.365 billion, up 12.6 per cent from July 2011. In the first seven months, the ad industry expanded 7.5 per cent year on year to Bt66.90 billion and looks set to rise further during the rest of the year.
Manufacturing
This comes from the resumption of operations of the manufacturing sector, new product launches, and strong demand for TV time at higher ad rates.
From last year's low base, hurt by the flooding from September to December, Maybank Kim Eng Securities has raised its 2012 ad-industry growth forecast to 8-10 per cent from 5-8 per cent.
