GI: Hi this is Ga In!
YHY: Isn’t this your first time appearing on Sketchbook alone?
GI: That’s right, it’s my first after appearing as a team with Brown Eyed Girls.
YHY: How does it feel, being here alone?
GI: Actually this is my second solo activities. I’m feeling a lot more nervous that I’ve thought.
YHY: Today’s recording is actually her first broadcast appearance. So I was thinking what kind of thoughts she would have coming here. Isn’t she cool? Let’s give her some applause to cheer her on.
YHY: Could you introduce the first song you’ve sang for us?
GI: This is the title song named ‘Bloom’ from my second solo album. It is a bright song when you first hear it… Ah my fringe? Thank you. (?) taking good care of me. (The fans were telling her about her messy hair and she was mumbling the last sentence.)
YHY: Oh it looks good now. It’s pretty, it’s pretty.
GI: Thank you. Is it alright now?
YHY: This is your real hair right? Not a wig right?
GI: It’s… a… wig….

GI: It’s an expensive wig!
YHY: So about the song?
GI: I’m now 26 years old. And actually listening to what my parents and my mum has said, women who are going past their mid-twenties, it is the time when a woman becomes the most beautiful while being loved, in body, in mind, and in heart, just like the moment a flower blooms.
YHY: Ah just like a flower blooming.
GI: Yeah, the song is somewhat like expressing about a beautiful love.
YHY: About our youth blooming in full bloom.
GI: That’s right, the peak moment of the full bloom.
YHY: Ah the song carries a symbolical meaning. Actually I’ve heard that the people who produced this song, were the same people who produced for IU as well. For the song ‘Bloom’ too.
GI: Those people are actually the same people who made our hit song ‘Abracadabra’. So they were also working on IU’s album. Actually I was shocked too, hearing lyrics like “I like you, oppa” in ‘Good Day’.
YHY: Oh you mean those same people made that song too? Unbelievable!
GI: They are really scary people. Actually they are really people who are instinctively full of feelings. So they kept in their desires while working on IU’s album, and then unleash it all in my album.
YHY: All that desires.. Unbelievable.. Well although I can fully understand it. They are really professionals indeed.
GI: Yeah they are geniuses.
YHY: And who else participated in the album?
GI: Erm, Jung Suk Won sonbaenim and Yoon Jong Shin sonbaenim also participated in this album.
YHY: I knew that person would be participating (in the album).
GI: Oh there are also others like KZ who participated.
YHY: So what kind of song did Yoon Jong Shin-ssi wrote for you? It’s because the song he wrote for IU is actually called “Wallpaper Design”.. The lyrics he gave are about the emotions of a young little girl.
GI: I was actually anticipating something like a ballad song from Jong Shin oppa. But he gave me this song titled “Gaze”.
YHY: Gaze?
GI: Yep “Gaze”.
GI: I didn’t know it at the start either. But as I continued to sing it, it started to feel a little strange.
YHY: Why? His gaze is sneaky?
GI: That song has lyrics like “Where are you looking at? There’s nothing there” and “I can’t take it with just the gazing. The night is growing deep”.
GI: It was okay up till then. But he decided we’ll make it a duet and sing the part “The night is growing deep” together. So it ended up becoming like a song of us exchanging gazes.
YHY: So he became the guy in the song himself.
GI: Yeah it ended up that way. *Smiles* The song became really sneaky.
YHY: Listening to what you’ve said so far, I get the feeling that the songs in this album seem to be generally a little steamy (literal word used is “sticky”).
GI: That’s right. *In a low whisper*
YHY: Was it intentional?
GI: I think there are other kinds of music that only I can do. That’s the reason why there’s singers like me and singers like IU. The things that I can do, the music that I can show. Actually, there isn’t any song that is openly racy.
YHY: Of course..
GI: That kind of emotions. It’s somewhat like the high-level emotions that Yoo Hee Yeol sonbaenim likes. Looking at how refined we can express those kind of honest emotions through music. I’m really working hard on trying to express those emotions in a beautiful way.
YHY: I see.
