SMAPs Sekai Ni Hitotsu Dake No Hana Wins JASRAC Gold Award
JASRAC (Japanese Society for Rights of Authors and Composers) have announced the TOP 3 works/compositions that earned most amount of royalties throughout 30 years from June 1982 to March of this year. Taking the Gold award is SMAPs Sekai Ni Hitotsu Dake No Hana (The One and Only Flower in the World) that was released last July 2002. Taking the Silver award is Hiroshi Itsuki and Nana Konomis Izekaya (Oct 1983) while the Bronze goes to Futari no Osaka (Sept 1981) by Harumi Miyako and Masa Miyazaki.
SMAPs Inagaki Goro accepted the Gold Medal in behalf of Johnnys President, Johnny Kitagawa, where he also sent a letter through Inigaki. Sekai Ni Hitotsu Dake No Hana was born from Noriyuki Makihara and was breath into life by five members of SMAP. It has reached so many hearts, was loved, and was able to leave a track record by being no.1 in JASRACs most amount of distribution in the span of 30 years. From now on, we will sing our songs with great care, and we pray that it may reach more peoples hearts in the future. A huge applause echoed in the venue.
After the release of SMAPs 2002 album, SMAP 015/Drink! Smap! where Sekai Ni Hitotsu Dake No Hana was included, the said song became a hot topic after it was also released as a single on Mar 2003 that sold 2 million copies. The said song was also used for Kusanagi Tsuyoshis drama Boku no Ikiru Michi. JASRAC explained that the songs popularity is due to being constantly used in musical performances and its also widely distributed in PCs, cellphones, and sang in karaoke. While Izekaya and Futari no Osaka have always been a favorite duet piece in karaokes.
JASRAC was established in 1982 to protect the copyrights of musical works, and to facilitate the utilization of musical works, thereby contributing to the dissemination and development of music culture. (JASRAC web)
