Kindhearted locals are donating to help four-year-old Sun Yue in Northeast China's Heilongjiang Province after the story of the young girl helping with housework for her paralyzed mother and handicapped father came to light in the past few months.
Despite the fact that the family lives in Binxian County, Harbin - in one of China's coldest regions - this winter will not be cold for her family as the township government installed windows for their mud house. Other donors sent piles of coal as well as bundles of clothing.
The biggest single donation so far is the government's promise to build a new house for them in the next spring.
They also need not worry about food, for donors provided them with 20 buckets of cooking oil, and 40 bags of rice and flour.
Now I dont need to worry about whether we have rice or flour when I get up in the morning. Before the donation, the first thing I'd do in the morning was to see how much rice was left in the rice bag, and that whether it was enough for a meal, and whether we had to borrow rice from others? said Sun Yuemin, Yue's father
To help ensure the family has a steady income, the local government built a pigpen for them to raise pigs.
Little Sun Yue was given a gift most children take for granted: thanks to a nurse hired by one donor, she can spend her time playing just as her peers do. The nurse will look after her parents till her father recovers from a work-related injury.
Sun Yue's father was handicapped in a cave-in when working in a construction site, while her mother was paralyzed and confined to bed because of cerebral infarction ten years ago. The girl has had to do much more at her age to sustain the family than most young girls could even fathom.
Now she has many books and toys. She will go to kindergarten next year.
