Well, k กระซิบรัก จากความทรงจำ gave us some good inside information. However, it makes me even more curious. Why on earth Waiters think their job is sooo hard???? ... Sometimes ago, I bought a best selling book called "Waiter Rant". It is written by an experienced waiter, who worked many years in US restaurants. The book is about his annoying customers, and he kept saying the same thing. How hard to serve annoying clients, how difficult to get less than 18% tips after serving a group of ten dinners, blah blah blah...... Well, honestly, I do think it is ridiculous. ... Damn, I work hard too. (I am sure so do you).... Starting from 930 am to 1 AM, everyday. Should I get service charge from my client? Yesssssssss. Have I ever gotten it? Freaking no! Here are some of mine. (I design Gardens for living by the way).... ... Exhibit A) After finishing the whole Master Plan Concept, my client told me that he already bought a new land. So forget what we've done, and better do it all over again. Any extra charge for that? No.
Exhibit B Client called me at 10PM Saturday. To complain about Lighting of his restaurant was too dark. Well, I don't mind answering phone calls from my clients, but that damn Lighting was not even in my scope. Any extra charge for that? No.
Exhibit C In one project, I had to re-design our garden 9 times! Yes, you read it right. 9 Freaking times! Not that they didn't like our design though, but because the owner kept changing the buildings. (42 times!) Any extra charge for that? Hell, freaking no. .... Now, I have my own company, and I pay my staff's salaries as well. I've never asked my clients to pay extra10% of our Fees! So I don't get why couldn't the Restaurant Owner pay their own staffs? I don't mind paying tips for good waiters. But 10% is too much. ... I do think American is too lazy. They want money for everything. Need a haircut? You gotta tip. Need a Taxi? Yep, you gotta tip. Need a decent dinner in NY? 18% Tips, my friend. Not sure who was the first charging this service charge in his restaurant. But now it becomes a normal practice. Seems like nobody can do anything against this. ... Is it fair? Uh uh. Should we do something about it? Hell, yes. How???? ... What do you think?
