Tail: Ch 12 sts. Skip chain nearest to hook and 1 sl st into each ch.
Rump: Ch 4 sts, join, sc 8 sts into loop. Working with these 8 sts only, and ignoring the 12 tail sts, work the next round as foll:
Round 1: Ch 1, (1 sc, sc 2 sts into next sc) rep to end of round, join - 12 sts.
Repeat round 1 - 18 sts.
Next round: Ch 1, 1 sc into all sts, join.
Repeat last round until body meas 1-1/2" from start of rump.
Ribcage: Next round: Ch 1, 2 sc into next st, 1 sc into all sts to last st, 2 sc into last st, join - 20 sts.
Next round: Ch 1, 1 sc into all sts, join.
Repeat last 2 rounds 3 times - 26 sts.
Chest
Next round: Ch 1, sc 2 tog, 1 sc into all sts to last 2 sts, sc 2 tog, join - 24 sts.
Repeat last round 5 times - 12 sts. At this point stop and fill body as for leg (omitting shank buttons). The body of the dog can be a little firmer than the legs.
Neck: Next row (RS): Start new round, but do not chain. 1 sc in each of next 4 sts. Turn.
Next row (WS): Sl st, 1 sc in each of next 7 sts, Turn.
Next row (RS): Sl st, 1 sc in each of next 6 sts, Turn.
Next row (WS): Sl st, 1 sc in each of next 5 sts, Turn.
Head: Next round (RS): Work 1 sc in each st, including slipped sts, working each round as a spiral with no starting chain until head meas 3/4" from neck shaping.
Muzzle Opening: Mark center front (CF) stitch. Next round: Work to 3 sts before CF, ch 6, sc into 3rd st past CF. Next round: 1 sc in each st, 6 sc into ch sp. Continue working even with no shaping until head meas 1" from muzzle opening. At this point fill in the neck & head with fiberfill. Continue closing the head as follows: Next round: Ch 1, (sc 2 tog, sc 1) rep until 2 sts rem. Sc 2 tog, FO.
Muzzle: 1 sc in each st around muzzle opening, working corner sts tog as 1 st - 10 sts. Work 4 rounds of sc, then sc 2 tog 5 times. FO. Pull tail through a darning needle and gather together 5 rem sts of muzzle. Slip needle into muzzle at tip, pulling sts upward to form nose bump. Pull needle out at base of muzzle and wrap around muzzle, then make a small knot at bottom of muzzle and pull tail into body of dog to weave in end.
Ears (Make 2): Ch 5 sts. Skip chain nearest to hook and 1 sc into each ch - (4 sts). Work 4 rows of sc, FO.
FINISHING
Sew ears to side of head. Weave in ends. Cut yarn into twenty 2" strips. Insert crochet hook into a stitch at the top of head and pull the center of one 2" strip through 1/8" Slip hook through loop and pull two ends through. Repeat with all 2" strips, then trim to create dogs head puff. Repeat at tail with ten 2" strips.
Thread darning needle with double strand and starting at left front shoulder push needle through to right front shoulder. Catch shank eyehole of one leg, then push needle back through and catch end of loop of yarn. Catch shank of 2nd front leg. Pushing needle back and forth several times, catching shanks of front legs each time, fasten legs in place. Repeat with back legs.
Weave in all ends.
