Stray dogs savage young boy
Stray dogs seriously mauled a five-year-old boy in Don Muang district on Saturday.
Saharat Eknarongpanich, or Nong Cue, was attacked by three dogs and bitten on the arms, legs, body, head and neck and his windpipe was lacerated.
He was admitted to Bhumibol Hospital children's intensive care unit.
The attack happened while he was playing with friends near his house in soi Talad Klang of Song Prapha road. The three dogs were later beaten to death by people in the neighbourhood.
This was the second time the boy had been attacked by stray dogs.
Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin yesterday pledged to speed up promulgation of the delayed pet control ordinance for the city. It would contain a clause on dealing with stray dogs and should be in place this year.
The ordinance, initiated by former governor Samak Sundaravej, requires registration of pets and is aimed at preventing dog owners from dumping unwanted animals.
The governor also said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration was building new animal shelters in Uthai Thani province as existing facilties were overcrowded.
