1. On December 26th, the Tsunami Remembrance Day, PM Thaksin stressed to Thai audiences that, since tourism industry is vital to the country's GDP growth number, Thais should consider holidaying Thailand. Ironically, he and his family travelled to Singapore during New Year holidays, citing his family wanted privacy as his key reason for holidaying abroad.
2. In January 2004, PM Thaksin refuted charge against his billion-baht oil subsidy scheme that the government did have the money for the program and that the warning of lavishing taxpayer's money was nonsense. Ironically, in mid-2005, it was revealed that the Oil Fund needed to issue up to 80 billion baht of bonds to pay back loans and interests the Fund owed financial institutions.
