Hello,
Sorry that I have to type it in English as I have no Thai keyboard.
I would appreciate for a comment from those who have applied and successfuly been granted a NZ citizenship. I have check the website: http://www.dia.govt.nz
and have read the information pertaining to this. However, I feel I need some advise from those who have gone through such process please:
a) My Resident Visa was issued together with a Returning Resident Visa (Valid 2 years) - in December 2002. The immigration stamped a permit with note "permitted to remain in NZ indefinitely" on arrival.
b) My first arrival to New Zealand using the above visa was in September 2003
c) I generally stayed in New Zealand most of the time, with exception of 4 weeks every year during Mid-Decemer to Mid-January where I travelled to Thailand for holidays and visit my parents.
d) I have got another Returning Resident's visa (indefinite) issued late 2005.
As to my understanding, as I have received the permanent resident visa/permit before April 2005, then I will only required to stay in NZ for 3 years before I can apply for the citizenship. However, I have no idea if
1) That 3 years was counted for my case from the year 2003, and when I can lodge the application.
2) Which date is counted that I have received my permanent resident visa ? Issued date (2002), Arrival date (2003), or the second one (indefinite - 2005, but it the last one is the one that counted, I will then required to stay in NZ for 5 years ! before I can apply for the citizenship).
3) I do not have the original birth certificate with me, will the " dia " accept my D.O.B. and place of brith as recorded in the Returning Resident's visa and in my Thai passport? What shall I do as the only identity document I have here is my passport !
4) How long will it really takes for them to process it. (It is stated in the website as 8 months - such a long time !)
5) How much does it cost for the whole procedure (application is NZD 460, but how about other expenditure? Do I need to have a health screen, police check, translation, revalidation of documents, etc).
6) Can I lodge the application now as the process will take many months anyway?
7) What If I travel during the interim period when application is in the process.
Sorry for trouble but would really need help for this !
Thanks
