I've been teliing in the webboard for a long time that don't have high expectation about getting a job right away when you come to USA (Unless you know someone already). Finding a job in Thai restaurant esp. SF bay area without knowing anyone is difficult, it's not like a movie. In Thai restaurant, even though they have opening but most restaurant only hire people they know or friends of their employee.
Last bet is go to Thai grocery, they usually have some vacant position posted, most of them at least 20 min drive though, your friend probably need a car to go to work...but without serving experience..your friend probably star as busboy or helping in the kitchen first. Good luck.
