ความคิดเห็นที่ 2 To find your market niche for your first step in the door, I would suggest:   - Start with the Technical Support and Sales      within your organization.  Establish your      network with them.  Find out from them,      the qualification requirements and      responsibilities for the role.  Ask for inputs on      your qualifications whether are suitable.        Also, ask for their guidance as well as leads      to other organizations within the same      industry.  These people are the best sources      for the leads.     - Networking with TSSs in other organizations.       Ask them for the leads to other places.   - Trade association events: make yourself      visible by attending      talks/discussions/forums/conferences of      your industry.  This may or may not land      you a job, but at least you establish your      networking and name recognition.        My husband got good jobs offered via this      method.   - Networking through your inner circles i.e.     family and friends.  Ask them if they can     refer you to someone else in this field.   - Publishing your papers.  This too can lead     you –if not a job- at least another leads to     your prospect employers.  My husband got     his name recognition this way, thus widened     his networks. To avoid being perceived as “over qualified” and “insufficient qualification” in a certain area: Most importantly, de-emphasize your weak points.  In stead, emphasize only your strong points, which will be assets to prospect employers. In your resume, if you do not think your PhD will gain you any advantages, omit it.  If it’s irrelevant to the position, do not bother.   For my current job, I didn’t bother with second Master degree.  My husband’s new job, he omitted his second master and PhD degrees.  Instead, we emphasized on “achievements” on the jobs, years of direct experience and skill sets including “transferable skills” (will touch on this later) that are benefits to employers.  For my husband, in addition to experience and skills, he emphasized on his patents and papers ("achievements", will address later). ความคิดเห็นที่ 3 พี่ไทย ขอบคุณมากๆค่ะสำหรับคำแนะนำ  ที่จริงหนูได้ทำหลายๆข้อที่พี่เขียนมาแล้วค่ะ - เมื่อวันพฤหัสที่ผ่านมา เพิ่งมี professional meeting สำหรับผู้ประกอบอาชีพในฟิลด์ของหนูพอดี ก็ได้พบและทำความรู้จักกับประธานบริษัทนาโนเทคคนหนึ่ง คุยกันถูกคอดี วันจันทร์นี้กะว่าจะอีเมลล์หาเขา เผื่อว่าจะได้ job lead ที่น่าสนใจบ้างค่ะ - เรื่องถามเพื่อนๆและญาติๆของสามีทำมานานแล้วค่ะ แต่ไม่ค่อยได้เรื่องมากนัก เพราะสามีไม่ได้อยู่ในวงการนี้ ส่วนพ่อสามีที่เคยทำงานในวงการที่หนูสนใจก็เกษียณมาหลายปีแล้วค่ะ เขาบอกว่า "you're just 10 years too late" แต่เขาก็ยังคอยถามเพื่อนๆที่รู้จักให้เรื่อยๆค่ะ -เรื่องเน็ตเวิร์คกับคนในที่ทำงานที่ทำงานในตำแหน่ง Technical sales support นี่คงเป็นไปไม่ได้ค่ะ เพราะที่ที่ทำงานไม่มีคนที่ทำงานด้านนี้โดยตรง (เนื่องจากเป็นองค์การของรัฐ) ตอนนี้ก็เลยต้องหาวิธีว่าทำอย่างไรจึงจะเข้าถึงคนที่ทำงานตรงนี้ได้ ถึงได้มาตั้งคำถามไงคะ ตอนนี้ก็พยายามติดต่อคนนอกที่เข้ามาติดต่อกับหน่วยงานและหัวหน้าฝ่ายของหนูอีกทีน่ะค่ะ -ส่วนเรื่องการที่จะตัดดีกรีที่ได้ออกนั้น คงเป็นไปได้ยาก เพราะมันจะทำให้มีช่องว่างหลายปี แล้วว่าที่นายจ้างอาจจะกังขาว่าช่วงนั้นเราไปทำอะไรอยู่ที่ไหน (อันนี้สามีเป็นคนติงมา เพราะมีช่วงนึงที่เคยคิดจะดรอป PhD อยู่เหมือนกัน ก็เลยคิดว่า เออ เขาก็พูดถูกอยู่เหมือนกัน เพราะถึงแม้ว่าช่วงที่หนูเรียน หนูจะทำงานไปด้วย แต่มันเป็นงานที่สอดคล้องกับการเรียนทั้งนั้นเลย คือมันฟ้องอยู่ในตัวแล้วว่าคุณต้องเรียนเอกแน่ๆ ไม่งั้นคุณจะมาทำงานตรงนี้ได้ไง อะไรทำนองนี้น่ะค่ะ)  แต่ก็ไม่ได้เน้นเป็นสำคัญในเรซูเม่ว่าฉันจบเอกมานะ อีกอย่างที่ไม่สามารถจะดรอปได้ก็เพราะว่าปริญญาตรีที่หนูได้มานั้นมันไม่ใช่สาขาที่หนูทำงานอยู่ตอนนี้ ถึงแม้มันจะเป็นสาขาวิทยาศาสตร์เหมือนกันก็ตาม เพราะฉะนั้นถ้าจะสมัครงานด้านเคมี แต่ไม่มีปริญญาด้านเคมีมาโชว์ให้เขาดูตาม qualification requirements ที่เขาวางไว้ ก็คงจะยากที่จะได้งานนั้น  จริงๆแล้วความเห็นส่วนตัวหนูคิดว่า PhD สำหรับตำแหน่งนี้ไม่ใช่ปัญหาเลย เพราะมันเป็นตำแหน่งที่ต้องการความรู้ความสามารถในการแก้ปัญหาอยู่แล้ว มันอยู่ที่ว่าเขาจะรับเราหรือเปล่าเท่านั้นเอง - สำหรับเรซูเม่ ก็ใช้ functional format อยู่แล้วค่ะ เน้นประสบการณ์และความสามารถที่เราได้ทำมาในแต่ละงาน หนูเอารายละเอียดเรื่องการศึกษาไว้เกือบท้ายสุดเลยค่ะ ตอนนี้คิดว่าสิ่งที่เป็นปัญหาที่สุดตอนนี้คือ การที่จะเขียน cover letter อย่างไรที่จะสามารถทำให้ประสบการณ์ที่เรามีอยู่มันดูเด่นกว่าคนอื่น แบบที่เรียกว่า stand out แล้วได้รับการตอบรับเพื่อไปสัมภาษณ์งานต่อไปเท่านั้นเองค่ะ (เพราะการที่จะสมัครงานที่ไม่ใช่ entry-level เราต้องมีอะไรที่โดดเด่นพอสมควร ที่จะทำให้ผู้ว่าจ้างเห็นว่าเรามีความสามารถตรงนั้นจริงๆ ใช่ไหมคะ) แก้ไขเมื่อ 24 มี.ค. 50 22:59:31 จากคุณ : Northernlife - [ 24 มี.ค. 50 22:57:10 ]

ความคิดเห็นที่ 4 สวัสดีค่ะน้องหนม คุณไทยวูแม่น (หายไปนานเลยนะคะ) อยากเล่าจากอีกด้านด้วยค่ะ เผื่อจะมีประโยชน์กับคนที่กำลังหางานในสาขาวิชาชีพบ้าง คือจากด้านผู้รับสมัครงานน่ะค่ะ ตอนนี้กำลังรับสมัครผู้ช่วยในตำแหน่งบรรณารักษ์ค่ะ ก็เลยอยากเล่าวิธีการคัดเลือกว่าทำยังไงบ้าง แล้วทำยังไงถึงจะสร้าง first impression สำหรับผู้รับสมัครได้ดี เคยรับสมัครคนทำงานที่แผนกซึ่งรับผิดชอบอยู่ทั้งจากภายในและภายนอก ที่กำลังทำอยู่ตอนนี้ประกาศภายนอกค่ะ มีคนส่งใบสมัครมาแล้วจากทั่วประเทศ (อเมริกา) ปกติถ้าตำแหน่งไหนมีคนสมัครน้อย cover letter จะมีความสำคัญ เพราะชอบอ่านค่ะ คือมันเป็นสิ่งที่เป็นทางการน้อยที่สุด มันเหมือนเขากำลังพูดกับเรา เล่าให้เราฟังเกี่ยวกับตัวเขา เพราะอย่างนั้น ถ้าเป็นงานที่เปิดรับในวงแคบๆ ไม่โฆษณาระดับประเทศ cover letter ยาวๆแล้วเป็นส่วนตัวหน่อยๆจะดีมากค่ะ เพราะทำให้คนอ่านมองเห็นตัวตนเกือบจะจริงๆของคนสมัครคนนั้น แต่คราวนี้เจอคนสมัครเยอะมาก เห็น cover letter ของคนไหนยาวๆแล้วกลุ้มใจ แต่จำต้องอ่านให้จบทุกคน เพราะคนที่มารับตำแหน่งนี้จะมาเป็นลูกน้องโดยตรงของตัวเองนะคะ คนอื่นที่เป็นกรรมการอีก 5 คน ก็อ่านบ้าง ไม่อ่านบ้าง ตอนที่มาประชุมคัดผู้สมัครออกกันครั้งแรก บางคนบ่นว่านี่จะเล่าประวัติตัวเองตั้งแต่เกิดเลยรึไง ทำไมมันยาวได้ตั้ง 4-5 หน้า แต่ในเวลาเดียวกัน cover letter แบบที่สั้นเกินไป โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งที่ใช้ template อย่างเช่น MS Word ที่มี template ของ cover letter หรือ resume ถ้าไม่ใช้ได้จะดีมาก เพราะแสดงออกถึงความไม่เป็น professional เท่าไหร่ คนรับสมัครเห็นแล้วจะทำให้คิดว่าถ้าต้องมาทำโปรเจคอะไรสักอย่าง คนนี้ก็คงแสวงหาอะไรที่สำเร็จรูปแล้วมาเป็นต้นแบบแน่ๆ คงไม่มีหัวคิดสร้างสรรเอง คือเวลารับคนเข้าทำงานต้องพยายาม second guess ผู้สมัครให้ได้ ก็เรายังไม่ได้เห็นตัวจริงของเขา ยังไม่ได้พูดคุยกับเขานี่คะ แถมผู้สมัครที่อยู่ต่างรัฐ ถ้าเราเลือกเรียกเขามาสัมภาษณ์ ก็ต้องออกค่าใช้จ่ายให้เขาด้วย ก็ต้องเลือกเอาแต่คนที่มีแววจริงๆเท่านั้น แล้วในเมื่อมีให้เลือกตั้งเยอะแยะอย่างด้วยแล้ว เราก็ต้องคัดคนที่เห็นแล้วว่าไม่น่ามีแววออกไปให้หมด จากคุณ : กุลธิดา (kdunagin) - [ 25 มี.ค. 50 01:12:20 ]

ความคิดเห็นที่ 5 ทีนี้ใน cover letter และใน CV หรือ resume เน้นที่คุณสมบัติตามที่เขาต้องการเป็นตัวนำ แม้ประสบการณ์ของเราจะไม่ใช่อย่างนั้นเป๊ะ แต่ก็พยายามโยงให้ถึงนะคะ ตัวอย่างตำแหน่งที่กำลังคัดเลือกอยู่ตอนนี้คือตำแหน่งบรรณารักษ์สำหรับนักศึกษาที่เรียนระบบทางไกล คนที่ทำหน้าที่นี้ต้องเรียกว่าเป็น technology guru เลยก็ว่าได้ คือต้องเก่งเรื่องเทคโนโลยี่ทางการศึกษาทุกด้าน เพราะจะทำงานในเรื่องนั้นเป็นหลัก ทีนี้บรรณารักษ์ที่เคยทำแต่งานตามห้องสมุดทั่วๆไป ถ้าไปเน้นประสบการณ์ที่การคัดเลือกหนังสือ การทำ catalog หนังสือ อะไรทำนองนั้น จะข้ามไปเลยค่ะ เพราะไม่มีประโยชน์ แต่ใครที่พูดถึงประสบการณ์ทางเทคโนโลยี่ปุ๊บ จะ highlight ส่วนนั้นไว้ปั๊บ ส่วนอื่นๆที่เกี่ยวข้องกับเทคโนโลยี่น้อยมาก จะเหมือนกับเปลืองหน้ากระดาษพิมพ์ ยิ่งคนสมัครจำนวนมากๆ คนคัดเลือกก็จะ screen แต่คุณสมบัติที่ relevant กับงานเท่านั้น บางเรื่องที่เราเคยทำ แต่ไม่ตรงกับคุณสมบัติที่งานเรียกร้อง ก็พยายามโยงนะคะ โยงให้มันตรงให้ได้ ให้มันเฉียดเข้าไปใกล้ๆก็ยังดี ทีนี้เรื่อง reference หลายๆคนมีปัญหาที่จะใช้นายจ้างคนปัจจุบันเป็น reference เพราะคงไม่มีใครอยากให้นายจ้างคนปัจจุบันรู้หรอกนะคะว่าเรากำลังหางานใหม่ ถ้าสมัครงานที่ไหนที่ไม่ระบุว่าต้องการ reference พร้อมใบสมัคร ก็อย่าส่งไปทันที ใช้วิธีบอกว่า reference available upon request เพราะในขั้นแรกๆของการคัดเลือก คนเลือกจะยังไม่สนใจ reference หรอกค่ะ เราคัดผู้สมัครออก จนเหลือที่เห็นว่ามีคุณสมบัติตรงจริงๆ มีแววจริงๆเท่านั้น ถึงจะขอให้คนที่คัดไว้ขอ reference ส่งมาให้ แล้ว reference จริงๆแล้วก็ไม่ได้หมายถึงจะต้องเป็นนายจ้างคนปัจจุบันด้วย เป็นใครก็ได้ที่มีคุณวุฒิหน่อย รู้เรื่องเราดี รู้วิธีการทำงานของเราดี มีความคุ้นเคยกับเราพอสมควร แต่ในใบสมัครก็ระบุด้วยว่าถ้าต้องการติดต่อกับนายจ้างคนปัจจุบันของเราก็ได้ ถ้าเขาต้องการ ไม่งั้นคนรับสมัครอาจสงสัยได้ ว่าทำไมถึงไม่อยากให้ติดต่อนายจ้างคนปัจจุบัน มีอะไรที่ปกปิดไว้อย่างนั้นหรือ ปกติถ้าเขาไม่คิดจะรับเรา เขาก็จะไม่ติดต่อค่ะ จะติดต่อไปก็เมื่อค่อนข้างจะชัวร์ในระดับหนึ่งแล้วว่าคนนี้ล่ะนะ เอาแน่ๆ จากคุณ : กุลธิดา (kdunagin) - [ 25 มี.ค. 50 01:26:23 ]

ความคิดเห็นที่ 7 Good morning!  After a whole day of cooking yesterday, we attended a farewell party to a couple who will soon be stationed oversea.  We didn’t get home until very late.   Hi Khun กุลธิดา, how have you been?  I hope all is well with you and your family.   หนม,  Now, I see your problems.  I’ll address them later; allow me to finish with the two friends’ story first.  There are good answers lying in the examples particularly the key to your cover letter issue. A very good senior friend, whom I highly respect and admire.  She is my inspiration, particularly during my job-hunting period.  Nine years ago, she was a branch manager with a well- known international bank.  She oversaw one of the busiest branches in the area. Because of her age- in her 50’s then- the bank tried to squeeze her out during its numerous restructurings.  After over 20 years with this bank, she decided not to put up with any more craps.  She applied for a junior position in the Customer Care division at a quasi-governmental organization.  She started from scratch! She very well realized that she was way over qualified for the position, but she was determined.  She was straight with the then prospect boss that she did not want just to get a job.  She intended to make a career out of it.  All her cards were laid out, what she could offer to the group.  Her main selling points were: - Customer care/service skills.  After all, she was in this field as a branch manager. - Professionalism & maturity.  In customer service arena, problems can take place at any time unexpectedly.     She knows how to handle them fashionably. - Stress management skill.  To meet customers’ demands can be extremely stressful; she has ways to cope with it. ความคิดเห็นที่ 8 My neighbor, after a long service with the military, he left the force to join the private sector.  His targets were government-contract consulting firms.  He started as a project manager at a world-renown auditing consulting firm.  His selling pitches were: - Accesses: The group he is with has to deal with government agencies particularly military units.     His inside contacts become very handy. - Understanding/knowledge of government processes and procedures. - Leadership skill: he was a sergeant in the force; thus his ability to lead a project to its completion fashionably. After 12 years of his service, he is now a partner with this firm.  It was offered to him last December.  Very impressive career progresses for a person with a junior college degree. ความคิดเห็นที่ 9 Let’s get back to your cover letter issue.  For the content, you’ll have to find out your customers’ needs and try to match that as much as possible.  The examples above very well give you guidelines. I highlighted key requirements of each posting I chose to apply then crafted my cover letter and resume accordingly.  For my current position, I researched further at the company’s website.  I learned that four of its satellites were built by the same manufacture and of the same series as the satellites, with which I was in charged.  Thus, same characteristics principle;  this is to my advantage.  It was stated in my cover letter as an eye-catcher. ความคิดเห็นที่ 10 Let’s discuss about the format.  You must have already known this, but for benefit to other readers, I’d like to put it in place.  A good cover letter should remain in a single page with 3-4 brief paragraphs.  It should not reiterate your qualifications, which are already stated in your resume.  Instead, it should state other strong qualifications that match the particular position you are applying.  Try to put in bullet points; make the format more eye-pleasing and readable. Here are guidelines of a good cover letter: (I leave off the details of a full page format) “ Paragraph One.  Opening paragraph: Point out that you are enclosing your resume.  Specify where you heard of the opening – newspaper or personal contact.  Include the job title as well as the date and name of the newspaper or the name of the person who informed you of the opening.  Make some type of statement that your are an ideal candidate for the Job and/or incorporate any relevant company research. Paragraph Two: Select several significant requirements from the ad or what you were told by your contact and state accomplishments, qualifications and experiences that match them. Paragraph Three: Additional marketing paragraph, if needed. ความคิดเห็นที่ 17 หนม, I see now you are using "functional" format.  I was going to suggest that type.  However, there is a caveat that many recruiters feel uneasy about functional resume.  From what I gathered, they feel the candidate has something to hide.  My counselor at DBM mentioned the same. I did both chronological and functional.  After two interviews with a recruiter, I sensed that I wouldn't get the job.  I asked her a personal favor to comment my resume and interviews.  The first thing she pointed out was she does not like functional style.  Another one suggested to put chronological one instead.  However, I found one who likes it.  He said its easier for him to pin point the skill sets.  Though I did not get the jobs, but I could get job interviews with functional format.  Hence, it's not that bad. My husband did three, the first two and the hybrid one (chronological & functional).  I tried, but gave up because it was so confusing.   I agree with Khun กุลธิดา that the higer degree can be used as a mean for negotiation for better compensation.  My husband did the same.  He let them know during the negotiation phase that should future works will expand to a certain arenas, he is also capable of taking on the tasks because his PhD dissertation is in that discipline. However, you do not think your PhD will jeopardize your standing, then leave it in the resume. I have come across such comments on the internet, too.  But my career counselor suggested that this format would work best for me, as my work experiences were quite diversified.  If I did the chronological format, I'll have to put in work experiences that are not relevant to the jobs I am looking for.  It'll make it more confusing! I have also started the point form to emphasise my qualifications recently.  Prior to that, I always wrote my cover letter in narrative form, linking relevant work experiences to qualification requirements for the job I apply for.  It worked, too, as I got job interviews 90% of the time.  But I still think the point form will make it much more effective.   I always keep my cover letter short - only a page long.  Point form works better that way.  However, my resume is a bit long, although I try to cut it down and modify it to suit each individual job I am applying for. You are right, nothing can compete ปลาทูแม่กลอง.  It’s simply the best. You gave me an idea.  I must bargain with Jewel.  She urges me to write about work experience particularly on the special incidents/events I partook. ตัองเส้นหน่อย to เจียะโป้วนะ(to boost energy) , Jewel must cook  กูััไฉ่ก้วย (ไฉัปั้น) โขวกวย (มะระ) .  She is a pro on theses dishes.  I then will be energized to write .actually to rid my sheer laziness . Continue on job search I learned a lot from these two people.  They got me thinking outside of my small box.  Thus, new ideas emerged.  Thanks to them. If we analyze on the examples further, we’ll find that they also manifest the possibility of changing fields.  It may be difficult, but doable. In your case, you remain in the same field (or close to), but change role.  Together with your young age (close to 40 is a young chick when compared to many known people, who have done the same), it is even more likely.  My friends both changed fields and roles at much older age. How did they succeed?  They stressed on their unique qualifications –based on their research- needed by their customers (then prospect employers) particularly the transferable ones. I think you are in a good shape.  It seems you know what needs be done. Should you have further question, you can reach me via the given contacts.
