ความคิดเห็นที่ 1 Cope with Job Loss: This section is for people in Pantip who sought my advices on job losses.  I know exactly what you are facing.  I experienced the same at the end of 2005 when my ex-company was taken over by its main rival.  In the process, one thirds of the work force had to go.  I was one of them.   Because I had experienced lost of many good friends/colleagues to lay-offs since the organization major transformation in 2000, I was mentally prepared when my turn approached.  Here, are ways to cope with: 1. Do not take it personally.  Do not allow yourself to believe that you were laid off because you were unfit workers.     In my case, my performance records were always far above average.  The company always demands     for more than 100% from it staff; and I regularly obliged willingly.  Thus, if the company did not appreciate     my dedications, it’s better for me to leave.   2. Please do not let this incident ruin your self-confidence/esteem.  Do not blame/punish yourself.       Blaming/punishing yourself will not solve your problem.  Instead, it will only lead you to depression.       It did to one of my good colleagues. 3. Believe that once you put your best, that was all you can do. What was going to happen,     it’s beyond your control.  A Hindu philosophy says “ You have some controls over some actions, but not the     outcomes.  Therefore, it’s a fallacy to base expectations/happiness on uncontrollable premises.”   4. ความคิดเห็นที่ 2 Dos and Don’ts for career transition: - Allow yourself through the grieving process: denial (“It can’t happen to me.”); anger; bargaining   (“If I could have the job back; I would never complain again!”); depression and eventually acceptance. - Take good care of yourself like you normally would. - Focus only on “present and future”.  Simply acknowledge, though painful, the past, but can never be rewritten.     Opportunities for new beginnings lie in the present and the future. - Stay in touch with your circles.  Laid-off people have tendency to hide out; this is the worst time to isolate   yourself.  Gain supports by interacting with others. - Make this time your good times.  Consider this a badly needed break for you.  If you don’t take regular beaks from   the anxiety and frustration of job hunting, you may bur out long before you find one.  Make time for friends   and hobbies, socializing and solitude- whatever activities relax you and bring you pleasures. - Express your emotions as you feel them.  Talk when you need, but only to family and close friends,   NOT with anyone outside your immediate your circle, who could be your networking contact/lead. - Go through classified ads and jobs postings on Internet.  Compile those ads, but don’t respond yet. - Compile a list of relatives, friends and business associates, who would have knowledge of employment   opportunities or leads who might be able to provide contacts of others who have such knowledge.     Don’t contact them yet. - Compile a lsit of organizations that you might be interested in joining. - List your past jobs/assignments in chronological order. - List your accomplishments for each of our jobs/assignments. - Evaluate your financial situation.  For example, in light of the uncertainty of current situation, consider delaying   significant expenditures.  Moreover, consider ways to reduce ongoing financial outlays. - Think about long term career plans.  Do you want to remain in the same profession? Change career?   Continue your education?  Start your own business? ความคิดเห็นที่ 3 Planning--> Know Yourself: Job hunting is a whole process.  It’s not only search through the ads; writing resume; and prepare for interviews.  It’s is much more evolved. It requires much of thinking and planning especially at the first stage. Know Yourself: you need to - Know your interest.   What you want or like to do?  What’s your vision on your career path? - Evaluate your skill sets and aptitudes. - Know preferred environments: work from home, formal or lax working environment. - Assess personal realities: Do you have the required qualifications for the ideal job?     Are you willing to relocate for the job? - Assess your developmental needs.  Do you need additional training?  If yes, what type?  How will you get that? Ways to obtain/evaluate your skill sets and aptitudes: 1. Generate a qualifications inventory.  I generated a three-column table.  Each column is for skill sets, traits and     (technical) knowledge.  For instance, skill sets: analytic, critical-thinking, trouble-shooting,     problem-solving, customer service, organizational, management, team-work,     multicultural, co-ordination, etc     Traits: quick learner, patient, persistent, responsive, solution-driven, pleasant to work with,     ability to work under pressure, etc.     Knowledge: field of specialties, trainings, particular applications, etc. 2. Obtain your qualifications from previous job descriptions and annual performance appraisals/evaluations. 3.
