No offence, but i think what K. Jacky said is not consistent with what really happens in Singapore these days. Maybe that was the case a decade ago but now the reality is not even close to that (if not completely opposite) In the recent years Singapore have seen its economy groiwng at a rate higher that what they had expected. The result is there are more jobs created than can be filled by local people. Last year alone, 170,000 new jobs were crated, of which only 70,000 positions were filled by Singaporeans. The remaining had to be filled by foreigners.Aware of this labor shortage problem, the government has made a serioius policy to attract foreign talents to come to work in Singapore. It is expected that if economic growth continues at the current rate, in the next five years, there will be at least 500,000 jobs for foreigners. Therefore, if you graduate from a good university in Singapore (NUS, or NTU), you stand a very good chance to get a job right after graduation. In fact, the government is ready to give PR (permanet resident) status to these graduates very easily.
It's also not true that Singapore will be much affected by the rise of Vietnam as Vietnam is not its direct competitor. Investments are flowing into Vietnam mainly for the manufacturing sector largely because of cheap labr. Singapore, on the other hand, has already moved out from that competition ground. They have moved to depend more on hiigh-tech mannufacturing, IT and banking. Their competiors are more like Japn or Hong Kong than Vietnam. And these high-tech and banking sectors are still doing very well here.
To conclude, for the time being, I think job prospect in Singapore is even better than in Australia.
